Nonunitary neutrino mixing in short and long-baseline experiments

Non-unitary neutrino mixing in the light neutrino sector is a direct consequence of type-I seesaw neutrino mass models. In these models, light neutrino mixing is described by a sub-matrix of the full lepton mixing matrix and, then, it is not unitary in general. In consequence, neutrino oscillations are characterized by additional parameters, including new sources of CP violation. Here we perform a combined analysis of short and long-baseline neutrino oscillation data in this extended mixing scenario. This chapter investigates the traditional definition of cosmopolitanism which understands cosmopolitanism as moral egalitarianism. It sets out in detail how the three core elements (individualism, universality, and generality) allow so much room for interpretation that the definition hardly provides any information on what moral egalitarianism means. It confirms that cosmopolitanism as moral egalitarianism includes almost all theories of global justice, even such that are commonly seen as opposing positions.

Background The prognosis of HIV infection dramatically improved after the introduction of triple antiretroviral therapy 25 years ago. Herein, we report the impact of further improvements in HIV management since then, looking at all hospitalizations in persons living with HIV (PLWH) in Spain. Methods Retrospective study using the Spanish National Registry of Hospital Discharges. Information was retrieved since 1997 to 2018. Searching Silk Fabrics by Images Leveraging on Knowledge Graph and Domain Expert Rules

The production of European silk textile is an endangered intangible cultural heritage. Digital tools can nowadays be developed to help preserving it, or even to make it more accessible for the public and the fashion industry. In this paper, we propose an image-based retrieval tool that leverages on a knowledge graph describing the silk textile production as well as rules formulated by experts of this domain. Out of several possible similarity scenarios, two have proven to work best and have been integrated into an exploratory search engine.

During the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, there was an unusually high submission rate of scholarly articles. Given that most academics were forced to work from home, the competing demands for familial duties may have penalized the scientific productivity of women. To test this hypothesis, we looked at submitted manuscripts and peer review activities for all Elsevier journals between February and May 2018-2020, including data on over 5 million authors and referees. This chapter clarifies the new concept of cosmopolitanism as nonrelationism and embeds it in the academic debate. In defence of the new concept, it clarifies how personal relationships can be valued without treating them as a basis for justifying special responsibilities between related individuals. The argument distinguishes between different kinds of responsibilities based on a responsibility framework developed from conceptual considerations of Hart and O’Neill as well as Pettit and Goodin. It reveals that not all kinds of responsibilities are equally relevant with regard to matters of justice.

We studied ALK genetic alterations in high-risk (HR) patients on the HR-NBL1/SIOPEN trial to determine their frequency, correlation with clinical parameters, and prognostic impact. Leishmaniasis is broadly classified into three types: cutaneous, mucocutaneous and visceral. The visceral form is most dangerous and can result in death. Although leishmaniasis is an ancient disease, its treatment is still challenging. Several drugs, differing in their cost, toxicity, treatment duration and emergence of drug resistance, are used for different types of leishmaniasis. To overcome these limitations, the search for newer drugs and other treatments continues. In this article, we discuss conventional drugs, other treatments, including newer options such as immunotherapy and immunochemotherapy, and future prospects for leishmaniasis treatment.

Antibiotics have long been used in the raising of animals for agricultural, industrial or laboratory use. The use of subtherapeutic doses in diets of terrestrial and aquatic animals to promote growth is common and highly debated. Despite their vast application in animal husbandry, knowledge about the mechanisms behind growth promotion is minimal, particularly at the molecular level. Effects of a local single dose administration of growth hormone on the osseointegration of titanium implants.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of different concentrations of growth hormone (GH) on endosteal implant?s surface at the early stages of osseointegration. Sixty tapered acid-etched titanium implants were divided into four groups: i) Collagen, used as a control group; and three experimental groups, where after collagen coating, GH was administered directly to the surface in varying concentrations: ii) 0.265 mg, iii) 0.53 mg, and iv) 1 mg. Cationic amidotitanocene complexes [Cp2 Ti(NPhAr)][B(C6 F5 )4 ] (Cp=η5 -C5 H5 ; Ar=phenyl (1 a), p-tolyl (1 b), p-anisyl (1 c)) were isolated. The bonding situation was studied by DFT (Density Functional Theory) using EDA-NOCV (Energy Decomposition Analysis with Natural Orbitals for Chemical Valence). The polar Ti-N bond in 1 a-c features an unusual inversion of σ and π bond strengths responsible for the balance between stability and reactivity in these coordinatively unsaturated species. Carbon dots are an emerging family of zero-dimensional nanocarbons behaving as tunable light harvesters and photoactivated charge donors. Coupling them to carbon nanotubes, which are well-known electron acceptors with excellent charge transport capabilities, is very promising for several applications. Cosmopolitanism About Culture: Specifying Individualism

Still drawing on the classical distinction between moderate and extreme cosmopolitanism, this chapter analyses different specifications of the individualism element providing different answers to what it means to respect individuals as moral equals. The analysis eventually presents eight types of specification but rejects all of them as either still too broad or untenable. Only a hybrid type, which is composed of assumptions of different specification types, appears more promising. This defines the new concept of cosmopolitanism: cosmopolitanism as nonrelationism.
