Efficient Transport Protocol for Networked Haptics Applications

The performance of haptic application is highly sensitive to communication delays and losses of data. It implies several constraints in developing networked haptic applications. This paper describes a new internet protocol called Efficient Transport Protocol (ETP), which aims at developing distributed interactive applications. TCP and UDP are transport protocols commonly used in any kind of networked communication, but they are not focused on real time application. Combining GPU and FPGA technology for efficient exhaustive interaction analysis in GWAS

Interaction between genes has become a major topic in quantitative genetics. It is believed that these interactions play a significant role in genetic variations causing complex diseases. Due to the number of tests required for an exhaustive search in genome-wide association studies (GWAS), a large amount of computational power is required. In this paper, we present a hybrid architecture consisting of tightly interconnected CPUs, GPUs and FPGAs and a fine-tuned software suite to outperform other implementations in pairwise interaction analysis while consuming less than 300Watts and fitting into a standard desktop computer case.

The development of a suite of computer-based diagnostic tests based on the Common European Framework

DIALANG is an on-line language assessment system, which contains tests in 14 European languages and is based on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). It is the first major testing system that is oriented towards diagnosing language skills and providing feedback to users rather than certifying their proficiency. This article describes the contents of Version 1 of DIALANG and the way in which the system works. This is followed by an account of the development of DIALANG tests and of the pilot testing and standard setting procedures.
