Brominated Azaphilones from the Sponge-Associated Fungus Penicillium canescens Strain 4.14.6a

2019

The fungus Penicillium canescens was isolated from the inner tissue of the Mediterranian sponge Agelas oroides. Fermentation of the fungus on solid rice medium yielded one new chlorinated diphenyl ether (1) and 13 known compounds (2-14). Addition of 5% NaBr to the rice medium increased the amounts of 4-6, while lowering the amounts of 8, 12, and 14. Furthermore, it induced the accumulation of 17 and two new brominated azaphilones, bromophilones A and B (15 and 16). Compounds 15 and 16 are the first example of azaphilones with the connection of a benzene moiety and the pyranoquinone core through a methylene group. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated based on the 1D and 2D NMR…

Searching for long-lived particles beyond the Standard Model at the Large Hadron Collider

2020

Particles beyond the Standard Model (SM) can generically have lifetimes that are long compared to SM particles at the weak scale. When produced at experiments such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, these longlived particles (LLPs) can decay far from the interaction vertex of the primary proton–proton collision. Such LLP signatures are distinct from those of promptly decaying particles that are targeted by the majority of searches for new physics at the LHC, often requiring customized techniques to identify, for example, significantly displaced decay vertices, tracks with atypical properties, and short track segments. Given their non-standard nature, a comprehensive overview of LLP…

New physics implication of Higgs precision measurements

2018

Studying the properties of the Higgs boson can be an important window to explore the physics beyond the Standard Model (SM). In this work, we present studies on the implications of the Higgs precision measurements at future Higgs Factories. We perform a global fit to various Higgs search channels to obtain the 95 % C.L. constraints on the model parameter spaces of Two Higgs Double Model (2HDM) and Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). In the 2HDM, we analyze tree level effects as well as one-loop contributions from the heavy Higgs bosons. The strong constraints on $\cos(\beta-\alpha)$, heavy Higgs masses and their mass splitting are complementary to direct search of the LHC as well …

Long-lived particles at the energy frontier: the MATHUSLA physics case

2019

We examine the theoretical motivations for long-lived particle (LLP) signals at the LHC in a comprehensive survey of Standard Model (SM) extensions. LLPs are a common prediction of a wide range of theories that address unsolved fundamental mysteries such as naturalness, dark matter, baryogenesis and neutrino masses, and represent a natural and generic possibility for physics beyond the SM (BSM). In most cases the LLP lifetime can be treated as a free parameter from the $\mu$m scale up to the Big Bang Nucleosynthesis limit of $\sim 10^7$m. Neutral LLPs with lifetimes above $\sim$ 100m are particularly difficult to probe, as the sensitivity of the LHC main detectors is limited by challenging …

In vivo measurement of gastric fluid volume in anesthetized dogs

2020

Abstract The drug solubility is critical for the Biopharmaceutics Classification System (BCS), yet the criteria for solubility have not been precisely defined for dogs. In particular, the gastric fluid volume (GFV) of dogs which is used to measure the solubility has not been quantified in vivo. The aim of the work is to measure the GFV using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) from 12 Beagle dogs weighing 9–12 kg (6 male and 6 female). We found that the average GFV within this weight range was 24.0 ± 4.2 mL. The result can be used for the BCS studies of canine drugs and also serves as a reference for other species.

Measurement of theCP-violation parameter ofB0mixing and decay withpp¯→μμXdata

2006

We measure the dimuon charge asymmetry A in p (p) over bar collisions at a center of mass energy root s=1960 GeV. The data was recorded with the D0 detector and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of approximately 1.0 fb(-1). Assuming that the asymmetry A is due to asymmetric B-0 (B) over bar (0) mixing and decay, we extract the CP-violation parameter of B-0 mixing and decay: ((epsilon B0))/(1+vertical bar epsilon B0 vertical bar 2)=(AB0)/(4)= -0.0023 +/- 0.0011(stat)+/- 0.0008(syst).A(B)(0) is the dimuon charge asymmetry from decays of B-0(B) over bar (0) pairs. The general case, with CP violation in both B-0 and B-s(0) systems, is also considered. Finally we obtain the forward-backwar…

Induction of new metabolites from sponge-associated fungus Aspergillus carneus by OSMAC approach.

2018

Abstract A comparative study on the metabolic profile of the sponge-associated fungus Aspergillus carneus using the OSMAC approach was conducted. The fungal strain was fermented on three different media including solid rice medium with or without sea salt and modified Czapek medium. Three new natural products, isopropylchaetominine (1), isoterrelumamide A (2) and 5′-epi-averufanin (3), together with fourteen known compounds (4–17) were isolated. The structures of the new compounds were established by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic analysis as well as by HRESIMS. Compound 2 was only found when the fungus was cultivated on modified Czapek medium, whereas compounds 4, 7, 11, 12, and 14 were only …

Induction of ambuic acid derivatives by the endophytic fungus Pestalotiopsis lespedezae through an OSMAC approach

2021

Abstract Ten new ambuic acid derivatives, pestallic acids H–Q including one new iodinated natural product along with two known compounds, ambuic acid and ambuic acid 18-acetate, were obtained through fermentation of the endophytic fungus Pestalotiopsis lespedezae on solid rice medium with 3.5% NaI. Pestallic acids H–Q were undetectable in cultures of the fungus grown on solid rice medium lacking NaI or in those where NaI had been replaced by NaCl or NaBr. The structures of the new metabolites were established on basis of 1D/2D NMR and HRESIMS data. Their absolute configurations were determined by Mosher’s method and TDDFT-ECD calculations. The compounds failed to show antibacterial activity…

Cyclic heptapeptides from the soil-derived fungus Clonostachys rosea

2019

Abstract Three new cyclic heptapeptides (1–3) together with three known compounds (4–6) were isolated from a solid rice culture of the soil-derived fungus Clonostachys rosea. Fermentation of the fungus on white beans instead of rice afforded a new γ-lactam (7) and a known γ-lactone (8) that were not detected in the former extracts. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated on the basis of 1D and 2D NMR spectra as well as by HRESIMS data. Compounds 1 and 4 exhibited significant cytotoxicity against the L5178Y mouse lymphoma cell line with IC50 values of 4.1 and 0.1 µM, respectively. Compound 4 also displayed cytotoxicity against the A2780 human ovarian cancer cell line with an IC50…

Precision Higgs physics at the CEPC Supported by the National Key Program for S&T Researh and Development (2016YFA0400400); CAS Center for Excellence…

2019

The discovery of the Higgs boson with its mass around 125 GeV by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations marked the beginning of a new era in high energy physics. The Higgs boson will be the subject of extensive studies of the ongoing LHC program. At the same time, lepton collider based Higgs factories have been proposed as a possible next step beyond the LHC, with its main goal to precisely measure the properties of the Higgs boson and probe potential new physics associated with the Higgs boson. The Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) is one of such proposed Higgs factories. The CEPC is an e+e− circular collider proposed by and to be hosted in China. Located in a tunnel of approximately 10…
