Perceived movement skill competence in stability: Validity and reliability of a pictorial scale in early adolescents.

2021

Perceived motor competence (PMC) is important to health as it mediates the association between actual motor competence (AMC) and physical activity. Many instruments assess the broader construct of physical self-perception but no scale has been developed to assess PMC in stability. The aim of this study was to develop and analyze the reliability and validity of a new pictorial PMC in stability skill assessment when completed by early adolescents. A Delphi method showed ≥70% of experts' consensus in the seven proposed items. A sample of 904 students (11-14 years old) self-reported PMC in locomotion, object control, and stability using two pictorial scales: Perceived Movement Skill Competence …

The Impact of Regional and National Leaders in Subnational Elections in Spain: Evidence from Andalusian Regional Elections

2021

Abstract Democracies have experienced two trends in the last decades: the growing personalization of politics and the increasing relevance of regions in the political process. This article addresses these trends by posing two questions: Do political leaders influence the vote in regional elections? Do regional party leaders have a larger impact on voter preferences than their national counterparts in regional elections? To answer these questions, we analyzed five regional elections held in Andalusia between 2004 and 2018. The results show that both national and regional leaders matter in regional elections. However, the effect of national and regional leaders is “conditioned” by the charact…

Direct imaging of chiral domain walls and N\'eel-type skyrmionium in ferrimagnetic alloys

2021

The evolution of chiral spin structures is studied in ferrimagnet Ta/Ir/Fe/GdFeCo/Pt multilayers as a function of temperature using scanning electron microscopy with polarization analysis (SEMPA). The GdFeCo ferrimagnet exhibits pure right-hand N\'eel-type domain wall (DW) spin textures over a large temperature range. This indicates the presence of a negative Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) that can originate from both the top Fe/Pt and the Co/Pt interfaces. From measurements of the DW width, as well as complementary magnetic characterization, the exchange stiffness as a function of temperature is ascertained. The exchange stiffness is surprisingly mostly constant, which is explaine…

Dynamic coarse-graining of polymer systems using mobility functions.

2021

We propose a dynamic coarse-graining (CG) scheme for mapping heterogeneous polymer fluids onto extremely CG models in a dynamically consistent manner. The idea is to use as target function for the mapping a wave-vector dependent mobility function derived from the single-chain dynamic structure factor, which is calculated in the microscopic reference system. In previous work, we have shown that dynamic density functional calculations based on this mobility function can accurately reproduce the order/disorder kinetics in polymer melts, thus it is a suitable starting point for dynamic mapping. To enable the mapping over a range of relevant wave vectors, we propose to modify the CG dynamics by …

2021

Abstract Background Patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) can develop lung squamous cell carcinoma (LuSCC), which could be the second primary tumor or HNSCC metastasis. Morphologically it is difficult to distinguish metastatic HNSCC from a second primary tumor which presents a significant diagnostic challenge. Differentiation of those two malignancies is important because the recommended treatments for metastatic HNSCC and primary LuSCC differ significantly. We investigated if the quantification of the promotor methylation status in HNSCC and LuSCC differs. Methods Primary HNSCC (N = 36) and LuSCC (N = 17) were included in this study. Effect of the Alterations in Contractility and Morphology Produced by Atrial Fibrillation on the Thrombosis Potential of the Left Atrial Appendage

2021

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common arrhythmia mainly affecting the elderly population, which can lead to serious complications such as stroke, ischaemic attack and vascular dementia. These problems are caused by thrombi which mostly originate in the left atrial appendage (LAA), a small muscular sac protruding from left atrium. The abnormal heart rhythm associated with AF results in alterations in the heart muscle contractions and in some reshaping of the cardiac chambers. This study aims to verify if and how these physiological changes can establish hemodynamic conditions in the LAA promoting thrombus formation, by means of computational fluid dynamic (CFD) analyses. In particular, sinus …

Biominéralisation chez les Céphalopodes (Mollusca) : processus moléculaires et évolution

2021

Molluscs constitute one of the most diversified phyla within metazoans, known for their ability to mineralize a shell. The shell biomineralization is a genetically controlled process that is performed extracellularly via a calcifying organic matrix. This latter, which remains finally occluded (at least, partially) into the shell, is a mixture of proteins, glycoproteins, lipids and polysaccharides, that are collectively secreted by the external calcifying epithelium of the mantle. Today, the shell matrix is usually considered as the ‘molecular toolbox’ for constructing the shell. Since its discovery, it has been the focus of numerous studies, but mainly on bivalves and gastropods leaving cep…

Priming maritime pine megagametophytes during somatic embryogenesis improved plant adaptation to heat stress

2021

In the context of global climate change, forest tree research should be addressed to provide genotypes with increased resilience to high temperature events. These improved plants can be obtained by heat priming during somatic embryogenesis (SE), which would produce an epigenetic-mediated transgenerational memory. Thereby, we applied 37 °C or 50 °C to maritime pine (Pinus pinaster) megagametophytes and the obtained embryogenic masses went through the subsequent SE phases to produce plants that were further subjected to heat stress conditions. A putative transcription factor WRKY11 was upregulated in priming-derived embryonal masses, and also in the regenerated P37 and P50 plants, suggesting …

Structural analysis and biochemical properties of laccase enzymes from two Pediococcus species

2021

Summary Prokaryotic laccases are emergent biocatalysts. However, they have not been broadly found and characterized in bacterial organisms, especially in lactic acid bacteria. Recently, a prokaryotic laccase from the lactic acid bacterium Pediococcus acidilactici 5930, which can degrade biogenic amines, was discovered. Thus, our study aimed to shed light on laccases from lactic acid bacteria focusing on two Pediococcus laccases, P. acidilactici 5930 and Pediococcus pentosaceus 4816, which have provided valuable information on their biochemical activities on redox mediators and biogenic amines. Both laccases are able to oxidize canonical substrates as ABTS, ferrocyanide and 2,6‐DMP, and non‐…

Dimension of the isometry group in three-dimensional Riemannian spaces

2021

The necessary and sufficient conditions for a three-dimensional Riemannian metric to admit a group of isometries of dimension $r$ acting on s-dimensional orbits are obtained. These conditions are Intrinsic, Deductive, Explicit and ALgorithmic and they offer an IDEAL labeling that improves previously known invariant studies.

Sekcija “Indivīds un vara Baltijas kultūrtelpā”: tēžu krājums

2021

Krājumā apkopotas 2021. gada 26. februārī Latvijas Universitātes 79. Starptautiskās zinātniskās konferences ietvaros LU Latvijas vēstures institūta organizētās sekcijas “Indivīds un vara Baltijas kultūrtelpā” nolasīto referātu tēzes. Tajās aplūkota indivīda un varas mijiedarbība sociologu un vēsturnieku skatījumā visai plašā laika diapazonā – no 13. gs. līdz 20. gs. Tēzēs ietvertās atziņas balstītas padziļinātās rakstīto avotu studijās, ietver jaunākās zinātniskās atziņas pētāmajā problemātikā un reflektē par atsevišķu faktu interpretāciju plašsaziņas līdzekļos. Konferencē nolasīti 10 referāti, autori – LU LVI un LU FSI vadošie pētnieki un pētnieki.
