The diagnostic evaluation revealed a complete unilateral obstruction in four patients, and an anomalous communication between the two uterovaginal channels in six. In all such patients, the presence of regular menses is frequently misleading, perhaps resulting in unnecessary laparotomy and inadequate or extirpative surgery with negative reproductive consequences. The basic organizational unit in Finnish sport culture is a sport club with a voluntary membership. The aim of the survey was to describe the social organization of various sport clubs, and to trace the internal and external determinants conducive to the operative effectiveness of sport clubs. The survey was carried out in co-operation with all the national Sport Federations. The data were collected by mail from 835 sport clubs representing 51 % of the total national sample. Die Bedeutung der Leukozytenelastase in der Frühdiagnostik postoperativer Komplikationen nach allgemeinchirurgischen Eingriffen

In einer prospektiven klinischen Studie wurde die Wertigkeit der Leukozytenelastase in der Fruhdiagnostik postoperativer entzundhcher Komphkationen nach 103 kleineren und grosen abdominellen und thorakalen Eingriffen analysiert. Bei 15 von 17 postoperativ aufgetretenen Komphkationen sahen wir einen fruhzeitigen Anstieg der Elastase im Vergleich zu den ubrigen Entzundungsparametern und vor klinischer Manifestation der Komphkation. Die Leukozytenelastase erwies sich als weiterer sensibler Entzundungsparameter in der Differentialdiagnose septischer und nicht septischer Komphkationen. Ein normales postoperatives Elastaseverhalten schlos eine septische Komphkation aus.

Las lesiones traumáticas del antebrazo son cada día más frecuentes. Una variante tradicionalmente conocida como de Monteggia ofrece la particularidad en el adulto de la controversia en el tratamiento entre el yeso, la placa a compresión o el enclavado endomedular. En un intento de mejora de resultados hemos testado clínicamente un nuevo clavo cerrojado para el cúbito. Se han seguido prospectivamente 7 pacientes afectos de fractura de Monteggia durante un año como mínimo y dos como promedio. Todos los pacientes consolidaron sus fracturas en un plazo inferior a 4 meses, con un promedio de 2.5 meses. Determination of platinum and iridium in reforming catalysts by second derivative and absorptiometric spectrophotometry

Investigations on the spectrophotometric determination of platinum as a complex formed by tin(II)chloride in hydrochloric acid are reported. The determination of platinum was found to be interfered with by iridium, because it also forms a complex with tin(II) chloride. The features of the derivative absorption spectrophotometry for the quantitative determination of platinum and iridium was also studied. The analytical application of the method for the determination of platinum and iridium in catalysts was investigated.

The renal tubules of the paired pronephros in early larvae (ammocoetes) of two lamprey species, Lampetra fluviatilis and Petromyzon marinus, were studied by use of light-, scanning- and transmission electron microscopy. They consist of (1) a variable number of pronephric tubules (3 to 6), and (2) an excretory duct. By fine-structural criteria, the renal tubules can be divided into 6 segments. Coherent π0 and π+ photoproduction and elastic and charge-exchange pion scattering on3He has ben calculated in a consistent model. Realistic three-body Faddeev wave functions have been used and full nonlocal DWIA results for pion photoproduction are obtained. Furthermore, two-step processes such as3He(γ, π0)3He(π0, π+)3H are included giving rise to unexpected large results. The comparison with experimental data is very good over a wide range of photon energies and nuclear momentum transfers. A long-time discrepancy between previous impulse-approximation calculations and experimental data has been removed.

In this chapter we study the lumped parameter modelling of a large class of circuits composed of bipolar transistors, junction diodes and passive elements (resistors, capacitors, inductors). Abstract A sensitive assay for kynurenine transaminase activity (E.C. 2.6.1.7) based on rapid separation of the reaction product by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) has been developed. Drosophila sordidula extracts have been assayed by this new method and this is the first time that kynurenine transaminase activity has been demonstrated in Drosophila . The method of assay developed can be extended to any other organism. Kynurenine and 3-hydroxykynurenine were both used as substrates, and they were transaminated to kynurenic acid and xanthruenic acid, respectively. HPLC is used to separate and quantitate these reaction products from all other components in the reaction mixture. …

Boundary/Field Variational Principles for the Elastic Plastic Rate Problem

An elastic-plastic continuous solid body under quasi-statically variable external actions is herein addressed in the hypoteses of rate-independent material model with dual internal variables and of infinitesimal displacements and strains. Considering a problem as a 3-tuple , where D is the set of possible data, R is the set of possible results, and P the set of conditions of the problem, classes of problems are constructed as combinations of types of data, types of results and types of conditions. The application of the Monte Carlo method to lattice-statistics problems in metallurgy is reviewed. Examples are given for the prediction of phase diagrams from simple model assumptions for effective interatomic potentials and for the calculation of parameters describing long- and short-range order, ordering energy, etc., both for face-centered cubic (fcc) and body-centered cubic (bcc) lattices. Applications to real systems such as Cu—Au and Fe—Al alloys are discussed.
