0305-0491 (Print) Journal Article; The abdominal cuticle from queens of two termite species, Cubitermes fungifaber and Macrotermes bellicosus, has been investigated with respect to changes occurring during development of physogastry. The following properties have been determined: 1. Relative content of protein and chitin and the percentage of easily extracted protein. 2. Number of proteins separated by electrophoresis and their molecular weights. 3. Amino acid compositions of the intertergal and pleural membranes and of the neosclerites in M. bellicosus. Virazole (Ribavirin) a Cytostatic Agent

Virazole (1-β-D-ribofuranosyl-1,2,4-triazole-3carboxamide,ribavirin) is a synthetic triazol nucleoside with a broad spectrum of antiviral activity. But virazole affects the metabolism not only of virus infected cells. Virazole strongly inhibits the cell proliferation of mouse lymphoma cells (L 5178y), which were not infected with DNA- or RNA-viruses. Starting with 3 × 103 cells/ml and an incubation period of 72 hr, the drug reduces the cell proliferation to 50% (= ED50 concentration) in a concentration of 4,7 μM.

Benzo(a)pyrene is metabolized to two major groups of mutagenically reactive metabolites: Monofunctional epoxides and dihydrodiol-epoxides. Various monooxygenase forms catalyze the various pathways at very different rates. In metabolic situations where the contribution by dihydrodiol-epoxides is small, epoxide hydratase represents a very efficient protective system. However, in situations where the mutagenic effect is predominately due to dihydrodiol-epoxide, the effect of epoxide hydratase is complicated and weak. The effects of quinidine on electrical and mechanical activity were investigated in atrial and/or ventricular heart muscle preparations from guinea pigs and cats. Quinidine (1--100 micrometer) exerted negative inotropic effects in papillary muscles from guinea pigs and cats. In guinea-pig left atria, a positive inotropic effect was superimposed on the negative inotropic effect in response to quinidine. Quinidine (100 micrometer) prolonged the duration of the action potential in guinea-pig atria but shortened it in guinea-pig ventricular muscle. The concept of a local feedback regulation of neurotransmitter release has been most intensively studied in the adrenergic system (See Ref. 13 for review). The feedback hypothesis of noradrenaline release is based on the findings that α-adrenolytic drugs enhance, and α-adrenoceptor agonists reduce neuronal noradrenaline release. Zbadano aktywność katalityczną w procesie polimeryzacji etylenu czterech kompleksów otrzymanych z seskwietylochloroglinu i związków tytanowych typu (i-C3H7O)4-nTiCln (gdzie n=0-3). Dobrano warunki tworzenia kompleksu aktywnego i parametry polimeryzacji oraz stwierdzono, że kompleksy te umożliwiają otrzymanie wielkocząsteczkowego polietylenu o dobrych własnościach mechanicznych i podwyższonej odporności termicznej.

Reductive metabolism of aromatic nitro compounds has been shown to play a minor role under aerobic conditions and to reach maximal activities under anoxia (Jonen-Kern et al., Xenobiotica, in press). We have shown that in the presence of ethanol maximal activities can be obtained even under aerobic conditions.

In 49 who had not been treated with VINCRISTINE (VCR) reflex status and motor conduction velocities were normal. In contrast, 47-after treatment with VCR-had loss of deep tendon reflexes in a high rate and a prolongation of sensory CV independent of the 1 total cumulative dose of VCR, 2 application mode according to different treatment regimen, 3 time interval since the last injections of the drug, 4 age of children at onset of therapy.

Abstract Adducts RSnCl 3 ·pyz (R = Me, Bu n , Oct n , Ph; pyz = pyrazine) have been synthesized and characterized in the solid state. It has been determined that RSnCl 3 ·pyz are polymeric compounds, where the ligand acts as bridging bis-monodentate and the tin atoms attain the coordination number six. This has been duduced from: i) temperature dependent Mossbauer spectroscopy; ii) the correlation between Mossbauer isomer shift, δ, and electrical charge on tin, Q Sn , concerning pyrazine adducts of RSnCl 3 and others; iii) an infrared study of the coordinated ligand in RSnCl 3 ·pyz.
