On the Occurrence of Flavonoids in the acrocarpous Mosses

Summary By means of paper chromatography two flavonoids were isolated from the methanolic extract of the moss Mnium undulatum. One substance was identified by chromatographic data, absorption spectra and acid hydrolysis as isovitexin-7-0-glucoside (saponarin). The second substance resists acid hydrolysis and is by chromatography and absorption spectrum identical with apigenin-6,8-di-C-glycoside (viccnin).

The Extinction of Generations in Generation-Dependent Bellman-Harris Branching Processes with Exponential Lifespan

If V is the time when in a Bellman-Harris branching model the k-th generation disappears out of the population, and if all individuals have exponentially distributed lifespans, the asymptotic behavior of the tail of the distribution of the extinction time V , P(V > t), is obtained, even if the distributions of the lifespans and the offspring sizes vary generation-dependent. Furthermore the times of extinction of several successive generations can be specified for the generation- independent case of the Markov branching model in continuous time. If the initial number of individuals and the absolute time grow up appropriately linked, a Poisson limit theorem for generation sizes will be given.

To understand more thoroughly the tumor O2 supply conditions, knowledge of O2 diffusivity in tumor tissue is required. Since exact measurements of the O2 diffusion constants of tumor tissue have not been carried out to date, previous investigations of tumor O2 supply had to employ estimated values (6 – 8, 10). The results of these studies are in part contradictory.

A hazard-free multiple-output Walsh function generator is presented which requires a minimum amount of hardware and is as fast as the integrated logic family employed for the implementation. However, the main characteristic of the instrument is the optimum performance from the viewpoint of the orthogonality of the function generated, as it is shown by the experimental verifications reported.

Die Kieferhohle (Synonyma: Sinus maxillaris, Antrum maxillare oder Antrum Highmori) besitzt ein mittleres Volumen von 15 cm3. Die Kieferhohle der Frau ist mit ca. 12 cm3 meist kleiner als die des Mannes mit ca. 18 cm3. Die Variationsbreite ist mit Werten zwischen 2 und 30 cm3 sehr gros. Dixon (1958) bestatigte aufgrund seiner Untersuchungen an 200 Schadeln diese Angaben von Onodi (1922), fand aber in einem Fall sogar nur ein Lumen von 1 cm3. Bei kleinen Kieferhohlen sind der palato-alveolare Boden verdickt oder die nasale und ventrale Wand eingebuchtet. El artículo trata de mecanismos y algoritmos para el proceso de listas en lenguajes corrientes de cálculo numérico. Para hacer ésto posible, ha sido necesario traducir al lenguaje de alto nivel mecanismos normalmente suministrados por los compiladores (representación rectangular de los datos y pilas o stacks). Como ejemplo de uso de tales mecanismos se presenta un analizador sintáctico de inglés.

Effect of Monooxygenase Inducers on the Binding of Benzo-(A)Pyrene Metabolites to Cellular Macromolecules in Perfused Rat Lungs

The irreversible binding of metabolically activated [3H]-benzo(a)pyrene (BP) to cellular macromolecules of isolated perfused rat lungs was studied. Lungs from differently pretreated animals were perfused in situ in a recirculating system without ventilation. BP with a specific activity of 10 mCi/μmol was added to 50 ml perfusion medium containing 40% washed bovine erythrocytes to a final concentration of 1 μM. DNA, RNA and protein fractions were isolated and assayed for irreversibly bound radioactivity.

Mit Hilfe einer neuen Mesmethode ist es moglich, das anatomische Totraumvolumen (VD) direkt am Menschen, Atemzug fur Atemzug zu messen (Barnikol u. Diether, 1975, 1977) und damit auch seine kurzzeitigen Anderungen zu erfassen. Prinzipiell stutzt man sich bei der Methode auf das Plateau der Totluft in der Exspirationskurve und nicht wie die Fowlersche Methode auf das alveolare Plateau. Abstract The growth of protective oxide layers on a martensitic FeCr (1.4122) and two austenitic FeCrNi steel samples (1.4550 and Incoloy 800) was studied by means of the 57Fe Conversion Electron Mossbauer Spectroscopy (CEMS). Scanning electron microscopy was applied to characterize the topographical nature of the oxide layers. Following a technical procedure of running-in steam generators, the steel specimens were oxidized in oxygen-free water at 295°C, 142 bar and a pH value between 9 and 10 for periods up to 70 h. Die Moglichkeit der Anwendung der DPASV mit der HMDE fur die qualitative und quantitative Erfassung von Schwermetallen in anthropogen stark belasteten aquatischen Systemen wird an Hand der Zinkbestimmung untersucht. Es wird demonstriert, das in solchen Wassern die Anwendung der DPASV nur unter bestimmten Voraussetzungen sinnvoll ist, weil sie durch die Gegenwart oberflachenaktiver Stoffe erheblich gestort wird. Durch Filtration der Wasserproben mit Filtern von wenigstens 0,2 μm Porendurchmesser werden diese Storungen weitgehend aufgehoben.
