New sedimentological and stratigraphical data on the Permian and Triassic in northeastern Utah, USA

2021

International audience; We present the Permian to Triassic sedimentological evolution in the Vernal area, northeastern Utah, todetermine: (1) the magnitude of the Permian-Triassic (P-T) unconformity, (2) the depositional environmentsabove the unconformity, as well as (3) their evolution in space and time. Within this area, Permian depositsconsists of the Weber Sandstone, which represents aeolian deposits, overlain by the Park City Formation, composed of silty and sandy marine limestones, dolomites and phosphatic shales. In some places, anunconformity is observed at the top of the Weber Sandstone, which is directly overlain by the MoenkopiGroup. This formation is mostly composed of siltstone,…

Recensione di G. P. Tsomis, Quintus Smyrnaeus. Kommentar zum siebten Buch der Post-homerica, Franz Steiner, Stuttgart 2018, pp. 454.

2021

Georgios T (somis )'s commentary on Book VII of the Posthomericas constitutes a significant, clear and complete aid for readers and scholars of Quintus of Smyrna. The commentary is preceded by an introduction that places VII in the general context of the work and provides some information on the story of the protagonist of this section of the Posthomerica. The comment is divided into several parts that follow the course of the plot: each of them is introduced by narrative-logical premises, followed by a detailed analysis of the text, word by word.

The last-mile vehicle routing problem with delivery options

2021

AbstractThe ongoing rise in e-commerce comes along with an increasing number of first-time delivery failures due to the absence of the customer at the delivery location. Failed deliveries result in rework which in turn has a large impact on the carriers’ delivery cost. In the classical vehicle routing problem (VRP) with time windows, each customer request has only one location and one time window describing where and when shipments need to be delivered. In contrast, we introduce and analyze the vehicle routing problem with delivery options (VRPDO), in which some requests can be shipped to alternative locations with possibly different time windows. Furthermore, customers may prefer some deli…

Profiles of multidrug-resistant organisms among patients with bacteremia in intensive care units: an international ID-IRI survey

2021

Evaluating trends in antibiotic resistance is a requisite. The study aimed to analyze the profile of multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) among hospitalized patients with bacteremia in intensive care units (ICUs) in a large geographical area. This is a 1-month cross-sectional survey for blood-borne pathogens in 57 ICUs from 24 countries with different income levels: lower-middle-income (LMI), upper-middle-income (UMI), and high-income (HI) countries. Multidrug-resistant (MDR), extensively drug-resistant (XDR), or pan-drug-resistant isolates were searched. Logistic regression analysis determined resistance predictors among MDROs. Community-acquired infections were comparable to hospital-acq…

Associations of Time in Range and Other Continuous Glucose Monitoring–Derived Metrics With Well-Being and Patient-Reported Outcomes: Overview and Tre…

2021

Time in glucose ranges is increasingly relevant for research and clinical practice. Whereas the clinical validity of these metrics has been demonstrated with regard to long-term complications, their associations with patient-reported outcomes such as well-being, diabetes distress, and fear of hypoglycemia remain an open research question. This article reviews existing evidence on links between times in glycemic ranges and patient-reported outcomes. It also describes a novel research approach of using ecological momentary assessment to analyze on a more granular level in real time possible associations of these parameters of glycemic control and patient-reported outcomes. Such an approach co…

TAXONOMY AND AFFINITIES OF AFRICAN CENOZOIC METATHERIANS

2021

The record of extinct African metatherians (Mammalia, Theria) is scanty, restricted in time (Eocene–Miocene), and its taxonomy is still subject of debate. A review of all African metatherians, or alleged metatherians, known up to now, led us to the recognition of only three taxa referable to this group: (1)  Kasserinotherium tunisiense  (Peradectoidea?), from the early Eocene of Tunisia; (2)  Peratherium africanum  (Herpetotheriidae), from the early Oligocene of Egypt and Oman, and (3) an indeterminate Herpetotheriidae? from the early Miocene of Uganda. Herpetotheriids probably reached Afro-Arabia from Europe in one or more dispersal waves since the early Oligocene.  Kasserinotherium , on t…

Interferometric Phase Retrieval in Optical Transient Detection

2021

A transient detection imaging system (TDI), also known as optical novelty filter, is an adaptive interferometric device that detects temporal changes in a scene while suppressing its static parts. Removal of background improves contrast and helps visualizing and measuring intensity and phase. Following the first TDI proposal by Cudney et al. [1] , most TDI systems are based on photorefractive two-wave mixing [2] . Previous works rely on conventional intensity measurements, where partial information about input signal phase changes are obtained by previous calibration using an input phase-output intensity transfer function of the particular system.

Yhteiskuntateoria on kuollut

2021

Widely Tunable Polarization Modulation Instability in D2O-Filled Microstructured Optical Fiber

2021

Polarization modulation instability (PMI) is a nonlinear effect in which two pump photons with identical polarization propagating in a nonlinear medium give rise to two new photons of different frequency and orthogonal polarization with respect to the pump photons [1] . In this work, we report the experimental demonstration of broad spectral tuning of PMI generated in solid-core microstructured optical fibers (MOF) that were previously infiltrated with heavy water (D 2 O). MOFs were designed and fabricated with the appropriate dispersion characteristics to produce widely spaced PMI spectral bands when they were filled with D 2 O and pumped at 1064 nm. Heavy water was chosen due to suitable …

2021

Allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT) is increasingly used in older myelofibrosis (MF) patients, but its risk/benefit ratio compared to non-transplant approaches has not been evaluated in this population. We analyzed the outcomes of allo-HCT in 556 MF patients aged > 65years from the EBMT registry, and determined the excess mortality over the matched general population of MF patients > 65years managed with allo-HCT (n=556) or conventional drug treatment (n=176). The non-transplant cohort included patients with intermediate-2 or high risk DIPSS from the Spanish Myelofibrosis Registry. After a median follow-up of 3.4years, the estimated 5-year survival rate, non-relapse mor…

The article contains considerations over the formation of family‑based remembrance of the past (post‑memory) among the young generation of Kresowiacy (Poles displaced from the Former Eastern Lands belonging to Poland before WW2) living now in Opole in Silesia – a unique region of Poland. Results of empirical research indicate that the family‑related post‑memory (inherited memory), in the young generation of the displaced is not a linear string, whose endpoint is the presence. It is random and fragmentary, with different time contexts, in which there has followed a clear mix‑up of orders covering different dimensions of historical and family events. All-fibered high-quality 28-GHz to 112 GHz pulse sources based on nonlinear compression of optical temporal besselons

2021

The generation of high quality pulse trains at repetition rates of several tens of GHz remains a crucial step for optical telecommunications, optical sampling or component testing applications. Unfortunately, the current bandwidth limitations of optoelectronic devices do not allow the direct generation of well-defined optical pulse trains with low duty cycles. An attractive solution is based on a direct temporal phase modulation that is then converted into an intensity modulation thanks to a dispersive element that imprints a spectral quadratic phase. Picosecond pulses at repetition rates of several tens of GHz have been successfully demonstrated [1] . However, this approach suffers from a …

Determination of the Bi209(n,γ)Bi210g cross section using the NICE detector

2021

The capture cross section of $^{209}\mathrm{Bi}(n,\ensuremath{\gamma})^{210g}\mathrm{Bi}$ was measured at different astrophysically relevant energies including thermal capture cross section (25 meV), resonance integral, and the Maxwellian averaged cross section at a thermal energy of $kT=30$ keV. The partial capture cross section $({\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{g})$ was determined using the activation technique and by measuring the $^{210}\mathrm{Po}$ activity. The newly developed and tested NICE detector setup was used to measure the $\ensuremath{\alpha}$ activity of the $^{210}\mathrm{Po}$. Using this setup the thermal and resonance integral cross sections were determined to be $16.2\phantom{\ru…

Accurate measurement of Poisson ratio in optical fibers based on forward-stimulated Brillouin scattering

2021

The interaction between light and sound in optical fibers is a phenomenon that researchers have been investigated for many decades. Among all the opto-acoustic effects that occurs in optical fibers, forward-stimulated Brillouin scattering (FSBS) has become of great interest as sensing mechanism due to the dependence of the excited acoustic resonances on both internal parameters [1] , [2] and surroundings [3] of the optical fiber. The vibrational modes behind FSBS are transverse acoustic resonances, in particular, the radial modes R 0m and the torsional-radial modes TR 2m . Most of the experiments reported based on FSBS exploit the properties of either the radial or the torsional-radial mode…

Individual participant data systematic reviews with meta-analyses of psychotherapies for borderline personality disorder

2021

IntroductionThe heterogeneity in people with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and the range of specialised psychotherapies means that people with certain BPD characteristics might benefit more or less from different types of psychotherapy. Identifying moderating characteristics of individuals is a key to refine and tailor standard treatments so they match the specificities of the individual participant. The objective of this is to improve the quality of care and the individual outcomes. We will do so by performing three systematic reviews with meta-analyses of individual participant data (IPD). The aim of these reviews is to investigate potential predictors and moderating patient chara…

Design and control of NxN microphotonics switch array based on non-adiabatic theory

2021

The development of linear programmable nanophotonics processors requires large number of couplers to route light through the photonic chip. This number scales nonlinearly with the number of inputs and outputs [1] , making the device increasingly complex to control, and bulky. Regarding the latter aspects, densely packed array of waveguides would be an elegant solution. In order to couple selectively the different –at first isolated- waveguides, we rely on the analogy between the equations governing the unidirectional propagation in optics and the time evolution in quantum physics [2] . Namely, as seen in fig. 1-a , if each waveguide can be considered as a photonic energy level, then a trans…

2021

This paper reports the first T2K measurement of the transverse kinematic imbalance in the single-$\pi^+$ production channel of neutrino interactions. We measure the differential cross sections in the muon-neutrino charged-current interaction on hydrocarbon with a single $\pi^+$ and at least one proton in the final state, at the ND280 off-axis near detector of the T2K experiment. The extracted cross sections are compared to the predictions from different neutrino-nucleus interaction event generators. Overall, the results show a preference for models which have a more realistic treatment of nuclear medium effects including the initial nuclear state and final-state interactions.

The Addition of Transarterial Chemoembolization to Palliative Chemotherapy Extends Survival in Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma

2021

Incidence and mortality of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) have been increasing continuously. Recent studies suggest that the combination of palliative chemotherapy (pCTX) and transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) improves overall survival (OS). This study aimed to evaluate the outcome of patients treated with TACE and pCTX in unresectable iCCA at our tertiary care center. A group of 14 patients was treated with both pCTX and TACE. The non-randomized control group of 59 patients received pCTX alone. Patients received a median of two pCTX lines in both groups. Those treated with TACE underwent a median number of 3.5 sessions. Median OS from the time of unresectability was 26.2 months…

Space and Time Averaged Quantum Stress Tensor Fluctuations

2021

We extend previous work on the numerical diagonalization of quantum stress tensor operators in the Minkowski vacuum state, which considered operators averaged in a finite time interval, to operators averaged in a finite spacetime region. Since real experiments occur over finite volumes and durations, physically meaningful fluctuations may be obtained from stress tensor operators averaged by compactly supported sampling functions in space and time. The direct diagonalization, via a Bogoliubov transformation, gives the eigenvalues and the probabilities of measuring those eigenvalues in the vacuum state, from which the underlying probability distribution can be constructed. For the normal-orde…

Arkkitehtuurin poliittinen tiedostamaton

2021

Martin Heidegger’s ”Building Dwelling Thinking” argues that socially engaged architecture fails to understand that the crisis of housing is related to more profound crisis of being. To fully grasp this, architecture needs to be detached from direct social and political questions. Instead architecture needs to examine and elaborate, how dwelling and being are related. Situated however to the actual reconstruction period after the wwii, the statement has its own ideological purpose. By looking this from the point of view of the political unconscious of architecture, the article proposes that Heidegger’s philosophical reflections are deliberately targeted against the political project of moder…
