ChemInform Abstract: Catalytic Enantioselective Conjugate Alkynylation of β-Aryl-β-trifluoromethyl Enones Constructing Propargylic All-Carbon Quatern…

2016

The enantioselective conjugate alkynylation of β-aryl-β-trifluoromethyl enones has been carried out using terminal alkynes and diethylzinc in the presence of 3,3′-bis(perfluorophenyl)BINOL as the chiral ligand to give the corresponding ketones bearing a trifluoromethylated propargylic quaternary stereocenter with fair to good enantioselectivities. Enones bearing a bulky 2-naphthyl attached to the carbonyl group provided the best enantioselectivities. The synthetic applicability of the resulting products has been demonstrated with their iodocyclization to form 4H-pyrans.

Asymmetric Synthesis of Five-Membered Spiropyrazolones via N-Heterocyclic Carbene (NHC)-Catalyzed [3+2] Annulations

2016

A new synthetic strategy for the asymmetric synthesis of five-membered spiropyrazolones via N-heterocyclic carbene-catalyzed [3+2] annulations employing enals and unsaturated pyrazolones as substrates has been developed. The new protocol allows the flexible variation of all four substituents of the pharmaceutically important spiropyrazolones in moderate to very good yields and in most cases with excellent diastereoselectivities and good to excellent enantioselectivities.

Enantioselective Synthesis of 2-Isoxazolines by a One-Flask Conjugate Addition/Oxime-Transfer Process

2009

Enantioselective isoxazoline synthesis: A combination of 1) a catalytic enantioselective conjugate addition of oximes to alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehydes and 2) an acid-catalyzed intramolecular oxime-transfer reaction lead to the first asymmetric synthesis of 3-unsubstituted 2-isoxazolines (see scheme).

Enantioselective LaIII-pyBOX-Catalyzed Nitro-Michael Addition to (E)-2-Azachalcones

2013

A [La(OTf)3] complex with a new pyBOX ligand bearing a bulky 1-naphthylmethyl substituent at the 4′-position of the oxazoline ring catalyzes the conjugate addition of nitroalkanes to a broad range of (E)-2-azachalcones, providing the expected nitro-Michael products with good yields and enantiomeric excesses up to 87 %. The optical purity of the products can be increased by a single crystallization. A plausible stereochemical model to account for the observed stereochemistry has been proposed.

ChemInform Abstract: Remarkable Effect of Lithium Bromide in the Enantioselective Protonation with α-Sulfinyl Alcohols.

2010

Abstract The favourable effect of lithium bromide enhancing the facial enantioselectivity in the protonation of methyl tetralone enolate with α-sulfinyl alcohols is described. Theoretical calculations allow to propose a model to explain the stereochemical course of the protonation reaction.

ChemInform Abstract: Water in Stereoselective Organocatalytic Reactions

2009

In this review, recent advances in asymmetric organocatalytic reactions carried out with variable amounts of water, from substoichiometric to a large excess (reaction medium), are discussed. We also summarize several proposed mechanisms for the different possibilities of the action of water both in the increased activity of the catalyst and in the asymmetric induction. Finally, the application of this catalytic methodology to the enantioselective synthesis of valuable compounds through enamine or iminium catalysis is presented.

ChemInform Abstract: Low-Loading Asymmetric Organocatalysis

2012

Asymmetric organocatalysis is now recognized as the third pillar of asymmetric synthesis. Recent years have witnessed increasing interest towards the use of highly active and stereoselective organocatalysts. This critical review documents the advances in the development of chiral organocatalysts which are systematically used in ≤3 mol% loading in all the sub-areas of the field, namely aminocatalysis, Bronsted acids and bases, Lewis acids and bases, hydrogen bond-mediated catalysis, phase transfer and N-heterocyclic carbene catalyses (194 references).

ChemInform Abstract: First Synthesis of the Chiral Mixed O/S Ligands, 1,2-Sulfinyl Thiols: Application as Chiral Proton Sources in Enantioselective P…

2001

Abstract A suitable method for the preparation of the chiral mixed O/S ligands 1,2-sulfinyl thiols is described. These compounds have then been used as a chiral proton source in the enantioselective protonation of 2-methyl tetralone enolate and the results are compared with those obtained from the analogous alcohols. A theoretical model is proposed to explain the different behaviors exhibited in the protonation reaction for each of these proton sources. Configurational assignments for the new chiral thiols have been carried out by means of X-ray analysis.
