The interplay between electron delocalization and magnetic interactions play a key role in areas as diverse as solid state chemistry (bulk magnetic materials, superconductors,...) [1] and biology (iron-sulfur proteins, manganese-oxo clusters ...) [2]. In molecular inorganic chemistry these two electronic processes have been traditionally studied independently. Thus, the electron dynamics has been extensively investigated in mixedvalence dimers [3] as exemplified by the Creutz-Taube complex [(NH3)5RuII(pyrazine)RuIII(NH3)5]. Aquí se analiza la posición del autor ante este período histórico y los tópicos de la época sobre el Islam, los árabes y la influencia de estos elementos en el desarrollo de la historia valenciana. El presente texto recoge en esencia el que fue leído en el ciclo de conferencias celebrado en la Facultad de Geografía e Historia de Valencia en 1995 con motivo del 150 aniversario de su nacimiento.

Contribution to the taxonomy of the family Campulidae Odhner, 1926 (Digenea) by means of a morphometric multivariate analysis

Digeneans of the family Campulidae occur exclusively in marine mammals, particularly in cetaceans. Their taxonomy is confused, being based on adult morphology only. We used a multivariate discriminant analysis of morphometric data to provide new evidence on the taxonomy of the Campulidae. Measurements of 217 specimens from 21 species of all seven genera of the family were taken. The percentage of specimens correctly assigned into their own species was 96.3%. The first three discriminant functions accounted for most of the variation between the species, which were grouped together in suprageneric groups along the first and the second function. Se presentan 4 casos de deformidades graves de pie de diferente etiología y diferente combinación de deformidades tratados mediante el fijador externo circular de Ilizarov. Se procedió a la corrección progresiva y simultánea de las deformidades en los 3 planos espaciales. Abstract Four analytical wavelengths of iron (238.204, 239.562, 259.940, and 240.488 nm) were tested for determination of Fe in fertilizers by inductively cou pled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP AES). Variations in measurements were caused by the changing interference pattern at different wave lengths evaluated by multiple linear regression. Thus, results obtained with different wavelengths are not comparable. Ca, P, and K were typical ele ments causing interference in almost all examined Fe wavelengths. Wavelength Fe II 238.204 nm is the best wavelength for determination of Fe in fertiliz ers by ICP-AES. Method accuracy is ± 8% at the ex amined Fe levels in fertilizers.

Isobaric vapor−liquid equilibrium for ethanol (1) + water (2) + potassium nitrate (3) at various concentrations of salt and with ethanol mole fractions from 0 to 0.642 has been measured at 100.0 kPa. The results were correlated by assuming that the salt was in ionic form and it was associated only with the water.

Charm counting in b decays

The inclusive production of charmed particles in Z--> decays has been measured from the yield of D-0, D+, D-s(+) and Lambda(c)(+) decays in a sample of events with high b purity collected with the ALEPH detector from 1992 to 1995. From these measurements, adding the charmonia production rate and an estimate of the charmed strange baryon contribution, the average number of charm quarks per b decay is determined to be n(c)=1.230+/-0.036+/-0.038+/-0.053, where the uncertainties are due to statistics, systematic effects and branching ratios, respectively.

Tratamiento de las fracturas complejas del fémur: nuestra experiencia con el clavo de Brooker-Wills

Se estudian 26 casos de fracturas de fémur tratadas con clavo de Brooker-Wills. De ellas, 22 fueron cerradas y 4 abiertas. El trazo de fractura fue simple en 8 casos y con cominución en 18. El tipo de montaje realizado fue dinámico, con encerrojado distal, en 13 casos (50%) y estático en 12 (46%). En un caso no se practicó ninguna clase de bloqueo. En 5 pacientes (19%) ocurrió alguna complicación peroperatoria relacionada con la técnica. Eos resultados obtenidos valorados según los criterios de Thoresen han sido: 17 excelentes (65%), 6 buenos (23%), 2 regulares (8%) y 1 malo (4%). The results of powder and single-crystal EPR studies on Cu(NH3)5X2 compounds [X=BF4, CIO4; Br] give evidence that phase transitions from a cubic α-phase (g i ≃2.12) with an anti-K2PtCl6 type structure to low-temperature β-phases with reduced symmetry occur, which are induced by ordering processes of the vacancies □ of elongated [Cu(NH3)5□]2+ pseudo-octahedra. The type of order is crucially controlled, by the nature of the anion. They induce necrosis in tobacco plants which then become resistant to the tobacco pathogenPhytophthora parasitica var.nicotianae.
