Bemerkungen bezüglich der Rezeption Hölderlins in Spanien

1995

Elimination of Ehrlich tumours by ATP-induced growth inhibition, glutathione depletion and X-rays

1995

ATP-induced tumour growth inhibition is accompanied by a selective decrease in the content of the tripeptide glutathione (GSH) within the cancer cells in vivo. Depletion of cellular GSH sensitizes tumours to chemotherapy and radiation, but the usefulness of this depletion depends on whether the levels of GSH can be reduced in the tumour relative to normal tissues. We report here that administration of ATP in combination with diethylmaleate and X-rays leads to complete regression of 95% of Ehrlich ascites tumours in mice. This shows that an aggressive tumour can be eliminated by using a therapy based on modulation of GSH levels in cancer cells.

Modeling the Target-Note Technique of Bebop-Style Jazz Improvisation: An Artificial Neural Network Approach

1995

In cognitive science and research on artificial intelligence, there are two central paradigms: symbolic and analogical. Within the analogical paradigm, artificial neural networks (ANNs) have recently been successfully used to model and simulate cognitive phenomena. One of the most prominent features of ANNs is their ability to learn by example and, to a certain extent, generalize what they have learned. Improvisation, the art of spontaneously creating music while playing or singing, fundamentally has an imitative nature. Regardless of how much one studies and analyzes, the art of improvisation is learned mostly by example. Instead of memorizing explicit rules, the student mimics the playing…

A recurrence-free variant of strassen’s algorithm on hypercube

1995

In this paper a non-recursive Strassen’s matrix multiplication algorithm is presented. This new algorithm is suitable to run on parallel environments. Two computational schemes have been worked out exploiting different parallel approaches on hypercube architecture. A comparative analysis is reported. The experiments have been carried out on an nCUBE-2 supercomputer, housed at CNUCE in Pisa, supporting the Express parallel operating system. © 1995, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. La educación del hombre y del ciudadano

1995

1995

This paper focuses on the fuzzy concept of phraseology and correlated notions (from interjections and true idioms to proverbs or aphorisms), as viewed from the viewpoint of Cognitive Linguistic and Discourse Analysis. Grammatical constructions, processes of grammaticalization, and discourse functions of lexical phrases are basic tools to deal with the field of idiomaticity, sociolinguistically relevant and indispensable in the framework of Applied Linguistics for tasks such as translations or language teaching.

On the influence of orientation upon the mechanical behavior of oakwood in a general state of stress

1995

Influence of orientation upon the mechanical behavior of oakwood has been studied. The approach within anisotropic medias mechanics supposes oakwood orthotropic with three orthogonal symmetry axes considered to be the privileged directions that occur during the growth of oaktree. Experimental tests consisted in compression tests under confining pressure realized on cylindric samples of oakwood chopped in 18 privileged directions. Although well known in solid mechanics, our approach is original in mechanics and rheology of wood. The obtained results disclosed an influence of the confining pressure upon the mechanical behavior of oakwood and its anisotropy including different types of anisotr…

T- and P-asymmetries in the (γ, π−) reaction on 13C and 15N

1995

Abstract A simultaneous theoretical analysis of the polarization observables for negative pion photoproduction off the 13 C and 15 N nuclei is performed. A sensitivity of the target and recoil asymmetries to different ingredients of the theory (the Fermi motion, the final state interaction and the nuclear model input) is investigated. The importance of the high (2 hω ) configurations in the nuclea ground states is shown.

A Decision Making Tool in FMS Design

1995

In FMS design one of the initial fundamental decision concerns the flexibility level of the workstations to be implemented. New machining centers offer the possibility to carry out several operations on the workpieces to be processed, thus reducing the workload both of the material handling system and of the resources used to control the part flow in the FMS. In spite of advantages related to the use of the machining centers with high flexibility, the better typology of each workstation must be evaluated taking into account its influence on the tools fleet and on the workload of the handling and tool room subsystems.

Alkaloids Isolated from Somatic Hybrid Cell Cultures of the Species CombinationRauwolfia serpentinaxrhazya stricta

1995

Abstract The phytochemical analyses of a somatic hybrid cell suspension culture of the genus and species combination Rauwolfia serpentina x Rhazya stricta revealed a number of monoterpenoid indole alkaloids. The alkaloids were identified as tubotaiwine, an isomeric mixture of vallesiachotamine, stemmadenine and vomilenine and were all produced in small amounts < 2mg/litre cell suspension. The hybrid cells showed a greater diversity of alkaloid biosynthesis when compared with the parental cultures.

Lifetime and production rate of beauty baryons from Z decays

1995

The production and decay of beauty baryons (b-baryons) have been studied using 1.7 \times 10^6 Z hadronic decays collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP. Three different techniques were used to identify the b-baryons. The first method used pairs of a \Lambda and a lepton to tag the b-baryon decay. The second method associated fully reconstructed \Lambda_c baryons with leptons. The third analysis reconstructed the b-baryon decay points by forming secondary vertices from identified protons and muons of opposite sign. Using these methods the following production rates were measured: \begin{eqnarray*} f(\qb \ra \Bb) \times \BR(\Bb \ra \mLs \ell\bar{\nu}_{\ell}\X) & = & (0.30 \pm 0.06 \pm0.04)\%…

Neutron removal in peripheral relativistic heavy-ion collisions

1995

We investigate the relativistic Coulomb fragmentation of $^{197}\mathrm{Au}$ by heavy ions, leading to one-, two-, and three-neutron removal. To resolve the ambiguity connected with the choice of a specific minimum impact parameter in a semiclassical calculation, a microscopic approach is developed based on nucleon-nucleon collisions (``soft-spheres'' model). This approach is compared with experimental data for $^{197}\mathrm{Au}$ at 1 GeV/nucleon and with a calculation using the ``sharp-cutoff'' approximation. We find that the harmonic-oscillator model predicting a Poisson distribution of the excitation probabilities of multiphonon states gives a good agreement with one-neutron removal cro…

Urban economics and endogenous dynamics in regional growth

1995

Generalized Quasi-Variational Inequalities and Traffic Equilibrium Problem

1995

The model that expresses the traffic equilibrium problem in terms of Quasi-Variational Inequalities is improved taking into account that: i) the cost function may be discontinuous; ii) the cost function may be considered as a multifunction. Existence theorems in such directions are given with examples and considerations, based on a direct computational method, that justify this approach.

1995

Numerous samples of oculate Asellus from eastern Siberia and the Japanese Islands, one from southern China, and one from Alaska, have been studied. The epigean fresh waters of this large Asiatic region generally harbour populations identified as Asellus (Asellus) hilgendorfii Bovallius, 1886, or some of its geographical forms previously considered as species, subspecies, or not yet named. The “hilgendorfii” complex seems to possess the dimension of a superspecies. A new pigmented-oculate species, Asellus (Asellus) levanidovorum is sympatric with A. (A.) hilgendorfii in the lake Bolon region (lower part of the Amur River basin) and is present also in the Sakhalin and Kunashir Islands. Its co…

Miositis osificante progresiva: ultraestructura, bioquímica e histoquímica de músculo macroscópicamente sano

1995

Concanavalin A?induced T-cell?Mediated hepatic injury in mice: The role of tumor necrosis factor*1

1995

Concanavalin A activates T lymphocytes in vitro and causes T-cell-dependent hepatic injury in mice. T lymphocytes were previously identified as effector cells of concanavalin A-induced liver injury. Here we report that hepatic injury is characterized by apoptotic cell death. On concanavalin A challenge, the cytokines tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF alpha), interleukin-2, granulocyte macrophage-colony stimulating factor, and interferon-gamma were detectable in the circulation of the mice. Pretreatment of mice with anti-mouse TNF-alpha antiserum protected them from concanavalin A-induced liver injury. Nude mice failed to release TNF-alpha or interleukin-2 after concanavalin A challenge and w…

Relativistic Versus Nonrelativistic ΛN Correlations in the Weak Decay of Hypernuclei

1995

We establish the reasons for the different effect of short range correlations in the nonmesonic decay of Λ hypernuclei found by relativistic and nonrelativistic approaches. By means of a schematic microscopic model for the origin of correlations, the appropriate method to include them in nuclear processes, via a correlation function, is derived and is found to be the one used in the nonrelativistic approach.

Projective Geometry on Modular Lattices

1995

Publisher Summary This chapter focuses on projective geometry on modular lattices. Incidence and Order are basic concepts for a foundation of modern synthetic geometry. These concepts describe the relative location or containment of geometric objects and have led to different lines of geometry, an incidence-geometric and a lattice-theoretic one. Modularity is one of the fundamental properties of classical projective geometry. It makes projections into join-preserving mappings and yields perspectivities to be (interval) isomorphisms. It is therefore natural that order-theoretic generalizations of projective geometry are based on modular lattices and even more, the theory of modular lattices …

Bond strength of metal-ceramic systems in three-point flexure bond test

1995

This study deals with a three-point flexure test for the metal-ceramic bond involving geometrically simple specimens (alloy strips partly coated with ceramic) that can be fabricated with reasonable expenditure and sufficient reproducibility. The calculation of the stress distribution in such specimens with the aid of the finite-element method (FEM) is presented. The aim of this numerical analysis is: to investigate the stress distribution in a ceramometallic specimen with dimensions that, in a large number of experiments, have proven to lead to debonding at one end of the ceramic veneer instead of a crack in the middle of the veneer; and to assign a bond strength to the measured critical be…

SummaryThromboxane (Tx) A2 biosynthesis is enhanced in the majority of patients with type IIa hypercholesterolemia. Because blood clotting activation is an important component of the inflammatory response, involved in the initiation and progression of atherosclerotic plaques, we have investigated TxA2 biosynthesis, neutrophil activation and thrombin generation in 24 patients with type IIa hypercholesterolemia.Urinary 11-dehydro-TxB2, was significantly higher (p =0.0001) in patients than in 24 sex- and age matched healthy subjects. Similarly, prothrombin fragment 1+2 (F1+2), thrombin-antithrombin III complexes and plasma elastase were significantly higher in patients than incontrols. Urinary…
