Cultures ofDigitalis obscura L. were established from axillary buds of mature plants or leaves of seedlings obtained under aseptic conditions. Explants were cultured on Murashige and Skoog medium containing benzyladenine and/or naphthaleneacetic acid. Shoot proliferation from axillary buds was not affected by seasonal fluctuations in the stock plants and increased relative to the cytokinin concentration, but auxin reduced the multiplication rate. Abstract The simple model of multivalent ion-exchange biopolymer chromatography is analyzed on the basis of classical quasi-chemical temperature. The rigorous isotherm equation deduced from the stoichiometric displacement model (SDM) was used to stimulate the migration of a solute through the chromatographic column in the isocratic and gradient elution modes. The peak profiles generated for various sample sizes were compared with those obtained on the basis of a Langmuir isotherm. These pulsars are believed to be old neutron stars that have been spun up ('recycled') in low-mass X-ray binary systems1 although some may have been formed by the accretion-induced collapse of white dwarfs in binaries2. Evidence for a direct interaction of Rev protein with nuclear envelop mRNA-translocation system.

The interaction of the Rev protein from human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) with the nucleocytoplasmic mRNA-transport system was investigated. In gel-shift assay, the recombinant Rev protein used in this study selectively bound to the Rev-responsive element (RRE) region of HIV-1 env-specific RNA. Nitrocellulose-filter-binding studies and Northern/Western-blotting experiments revealed an association constant of approximately 1 x 10(10) M-1. The 4-31G potential hypersurface has been further studied. The stationary points (R, TS, and P) were localized. A reaction analysis by correlation of bond-order indices and localized molecular orbitals demonstrated that the decomposition is an asynchronous process. At each examination weight, height, pubertal stage, FSH, LH, oestradiol, testosterone, androstenedione and dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate levels were evaluated. A phase I clinical trial was conducted with recombinant human tumour necrosis factor alpha (rhTNF-alpha) in 62 patients with advanced malignancy refractory to previous standard therapy. rhTNF-alpha was given as a 30 min infusion twice a day at 6 h intervals. We have established the first full length cDNA clone for the beta light chain of the MHC class II alpha, beta heterodimer (isotype RT1.B) of the rat. Clone pLR beta 118 was obtained from a self-primed lambda gt10 cDNA library of IFN-tau treated bone marrow-derived macrophages of the Lewis rat. Subcloning of pLR beta 118 into a transcription vector with subsequent in vitro transcription and translation using the reticulocyte lysate system in the presence of microsomes followed by immunoprecipitation with mAb OX6 and two-dimensional gel electrophoresis revealed the intact RT1.B beta I-chain.

Neuron regeneration reverses 3-acetylpyridine-induced cell loss in the cerebral cortex of adult lizards

Systemic administration of the neurotoxin 3-acetylpyridine to adult lizards results in extensive loss of neurons in the medial cerebral cortex, other brain areas remaining largely unaffected. After the neurotoxic trauma, new cells are produced by mitotic division of cells in the ventricular wall. The new cells migrate along radial glial fibers and replace lost neurons in the medial cortex. Electron microscopic examination of cells labeled with [3H]thymidine confirms that the newly generated cells are neurons. Thus, neuron regeneration can occur in the cerebral cortex of adult lizards.
