Gas-liquid chromatography and lipophilicity of esters of benzoic acids

Abstract The use of gas-liquid chromatographic (GLC) retention indices for the determination of lipophilicity was studied for a series of alkyl and arylalkyl esters of substituted benzoic acids. The regression relationships between the logarithms of the partition coefficients and the retention characteristics measured on two cpillary columns, SE-30 and OV-351, were evaluated. The behaviour of arylalkyl esters and of alkyl esters cannot be expressed in terms of a single regression equation. This is probably a consequence of the effect of the intramolecular hydrophobic interaction upon the retention of arylalkyl esters under GLC conditions. The main research line of the Tori group is the study of the reaction dynamics of dissipative collisions between heavy ions ia positron and electron spectroscopy. The last five years since the Lahnstein-Conference1 are marked for our group by the installation of a new experimental device for detecting positrons and electrons emitted in these collisions, the so-called Tori spectrometer2. The first part of this report is devoted therefore to describe the main characteristics of this apparatus.

The timidine H3 uptake in the mitosis index into the articular cartilage of the knee is studied in 7 growing rabits without weight bearing. The autoradiography shows that, after 48 hours of inmovilizatinn, the uptake of timidine H1 and the mitosis index is the same in the free knee. The influence of the type of the sampling-schedule and of the system-excitation with respect to identifiability and estimation-accuracy of the compliance-parameters of a nonlinear model of the physiologically closed cardiovascular system will be investigated. Using the sensitivity-functions of the arterial systemic pressure with respect to the compliance-parameters it will be shown how to select the sample-schedule and system-excitation in order to get optimal estimation-accuracy.

Se realiza una descripción de los diferentes tipos de lapiaz intentando buscar el origen de su formación y el tipo de material donde aparecen con preferencia. Sin lugar a dudas, uno de los aspectos más significativos de la evolución cárstica de la zona son las capturas realizadas por los barrancos sobre los poljes, debido al progresivo avance de sus cabeceras por erosión remontante, vaciándolos de su contenido de terra rossa en mayor o menor medida, según las característic as de la caliza del lugar de localización.

Nonlinear vibrations and hysteresis of micromachined silicon resonators designed as frequency-out sensors

Experimental observation of nonlinear vibrations and hysteresis of micromachined silicon resonators is reported. The experimental results are explained using a simple model in which the restoring force acting in the resonator contains a small cubic term. The effects will impose a limit to the maximum amplitude which can be excited while still maintaining reliability of these devices as frequency-out sensors.

Modified photobehavior of carboxylic acid derivatives induced by protonation

Abstract A series of carboxylic acid derivatives 1–6 containing a second interacting function have been converted into the corresponding O -protonated species or acylium ions upon treatment with 96% sulfuric acid or oleum, respectively, at room temperature. The resulting stable cations have been spectroscopically characterized and submitted to irradiation. Cis-trans photoisomerization was observed in the ionic speciesderived from trans -crotonic, fumaric and maleic acids, and maleic anhydride. We investigated the involvement of the enzyme, carbonic anhydrase, in the calcification-decalcification processes occurring in the posterior caeca of the midgut of the terrestrial crustacean, Orchestia cavimana, before and after exuviation. This enzyme was ultrahistochemically localized throughout the membranes of the caecal epithelium as well as extracellularly, i.e., within pre-exuvial calcareous concretions and postexuvial calcified spherules. During the molt cycle, the pattern of carbonic anhydrase activity in the posterior caeca was correlated with the calcium content at this level. Acute inflammatory cell-capillary endothelial cell interactions, related to injury and repair, were investigated light and electron microscopically in acute human bacterial pyelonephritis. In inflammatory infiltrate-adjacent microvessels, the small capillaries were completely occluded by leukocyte plugs and the large capillaries were densely filled with acute inflammatory cells adhering to the endothelium.
