Accumulation and Adverse Effects of Metoprolol and Propranolol After Concurrent Administration of Cimetidine

Pharmacokinetics of metoprolol, propranolol and atenolol were investigated in six healthy volunteers following 7 days of oral monotherapy with these drugs and after 7 days concurrent administration of each of these betareceptor antagonists with cimetidine. Application of cimetidine did not lead to any interaction with atenolol, whereas mean peak plasma levels of metoprolol were increased by 70%, and those of propranolol by 95% due to concurrent administration of cimetidine (p < 0.05). The AUC of the two last mentioned beta blockers behaved similarly (p < 0.05). My subject concerns the constellation of conditions which led to the discovery of nuclear fission by Otto Hahn, Lise Meitner, and Fritz Strassmann.1 It is on purpose that I mention all three names of the Berlin team and that I order them alphabetically, in spite of the fact that today Hahn is usually credited with the discovery of the fission of heavy nuclei. Stressing Hahn’s name, however, ignores the fact that Hahn himself called Fritz Strassmann a codiscoverer. Some aspects of the formalism of geometric quantization are described emphasizing the role played by the symmetry group of the quantum system which, for the free particle, turns out to be a central extensionG(m) of the Galilei groupG. The resulting formalism is then applied to the case of a particle interacting with the electromagnetic field, which appears as a necessary modification of the connection 1-form of the quantum bundle when its invariance group is generalized to alocal extension ofG. Biometric analysis of Brachionus plicatilis ecotypes from Spanish lagoons

Univariate comparisons and several multivariate statistical analyses have been performed to study the morphometric variability of B. plicatilis. Both laboratory clones kept under constant conditions and natural populations from different Spanish lagoons and different times of the year have been compared. The theme of this paper is neurotic depression and suicidal ideation as studied in seventeen Finnish men between the ages of 22 and 46. These men were seen in learning-theory oriented individual psychotherapy (10-46 sessions). The results of treatment are evaluated in relation to the Finnish concept of masculine identity and particularly the difficulty experienced by fathers in achieving a close and permissive relationship with their sons, so that a boy could learn to tolerate “weaknesses” within himself.

Abstract Annihilation characteristics are calculated for positrons trapped in clean and impurity decorated vacancy clusters in Au. The positron lifetime depends strongly on the structure of the clusters. In a strongly relaxed vacancy cluster, the lifetime can become smaller than the lifetime in a single vacancy. The substitution of some neighbour atoms of a vacancy cluster by Fe atoms has only a minor effect on the positron lifetimes.

Principles for Solving Sequential Multiple Criteria Decision Problems

In this paper a sequential multiple criteria decision problem is studied. The problem arises, when a decision maker is unable to consider all possible decision alternatives simultaneously. If the decision maker evaluates only a subset of all decisions from among which he chooses the most preferred alternative, it is not necessarily 'globally' best. In this context an interesting question is, how good the most preferred alternative is and what the chances are of finding a better solution by considering additional alternatives. The principles of a an approach based on probability theory to solving this problem are described and illustrated with numerical examples.
