Serious discrepancies occur, when different haplotype frequency tables are used for calculating the “EM value” (\(\left( {\lg \frac{Y}{X} + 10} \right)\)) of a mother-child-putative-father-combination (MCPFC). These are due to the different frequencies of low frequent haplotypes. Since the correlation between the haplotype frequencies of two different tables for haplotypes lower than 3.5 X 10-3 may even be negative, it seems justified to calculate the EM values with the minimum haplotype frequency of 1X 10-3. Abstract Hepatitis-B core antigen (HBcAg) was released from Dane particles previously separated from anti-HBc by repeated pelleting through sucrose gradients separated into three HBcAg populations when analysed by cesium chloride density gradient centrifugation. Heavy HBcAg particles banded at a density of 1.355 gm/ml, intermediate HBcAg particles at a density of 1.33 gm/ml, and light mediate HBcAg particles at a density of 1.30 gm/ml. Water-depth effects in photosynthetic pigment content of the benthic algae Dictyota dichotoma and Udotea petiolata

Abstract The effect of water depth on the light-harvesting pigments contents in Dictyota dichotoma (Hudson) Lamouroux and Udotea petiolata (Turra) Borgesen was studied. Both species showed higher photosynthetic-pigments contents with increased depth or shade. The ratios of chlorophyll c /chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b / chlrophyll a in D. dichotoma and U. petiolata were lower in light-exposed samples. In D. dichotoma , the ratios of fucoxanthin to chlorophyll a increased with depth or shade; however, it is worth noting that the 0 m (sun) samples showed the highest values. On the other hand, total carotenoids to chlorophyll a ratios in U. petiolata increased with depth.

Effects of 3rd-harmonic voltage content on dielectric losses of solid insulating materials

Dielectric losses in solid insulating materials subjected to voltages containing 3rd harmonics are studied. By simple theoretical analysis, some curves are obtained showing the behaviour of the ratio between the dielectric losses in the distorted steady state and in a reference sinusoidal steady state, against 3rd-harmonic content. Abstract This study was carried out in Jyvaskyla and Turku, in central and southern Finland, with Burkard spore traps. The average diurnal variation of all non-arboreal pollen types found in sufficient quantities is presented. A high concentration of Artemisia pollen lasting 4–8 hours was found mainly in the morning. The highest concentrations of Brassicaceae, Calluna, Cyperaceae and Rosaceae occurred during the daylight hours, often with no definite peaks. The peak occurrence of Chenopodiaceae, Compositae and Plantago pollen was around 12.00 and of Rumex from 06.00 to 10.00. Pharmacokinetics of atenolol in relation to renal function

The plasma levels and urinary excretion of carteolol and its main metabolites 8-hydroxycarteolol and carteolol glucuronide were investigated in 6 healthy subjects and 9 patients with varying degrees of renal impairment following a single oral dose of 30 mg carteolol hydrochloride. In healthy subjects the half-life of carteolol was 7.1 h. 63% of the administered dose was recovered unchanged in urine, and in all 84% was excreted by the kidneys. The renal clearance of carteolol was 255 ml/min. In chronic renal failure (CRF) the terminal half-life was increased to a maximum of 41 h.
