Pruritus und Gallens�uren. Bestimmung von Sulfalithocholylglycin und Cholylglycin in der Saugblasenfl�ssigkeit und im Serum

Ob die Gallensauren im Organismus ursachlich bei dem zumeist ausgepragten Juckreiz bei Patienten mit Cholestase eine Rolle spielen, ist bislang ungeklart. Nachdem eine Korrelation zwischen Serumspiegel und Juckreiz nicht gefunden werden konnte, wurde eine Anreicherung von Gallensauren in der Haut fur den hepatogenen Pruritus verantwortlich gemacht. Dies konnte jedoch in Hauthomogenisaten nicht nachgewiesen werden, wogegen sich Gallensauren in den Oberflachenlipiden der Haut vermehrt fanden. Deshalb wurden in den vorliegenden Untersuchungen die Gallensauren Cholylglycin und Sulfalithocholylglycin in der Flussigkeit experimentell erzeugter subepidermaler Blasen sowie im Serum bestimmt. A new interferometer has been designed in order to perform measurements of refractive indices and refractive index increments on liquid systems under elevated pressure at different temperatures. The method of measurement, the calibration of the instrument and the treatment of data are described. With a series of test measurements on trans-decalin it is shown that with this instrument reliable results are obtained.

Die sonographisch gezielte Feinnadel-Aspirations-Punktion als einfach durchfuhrbares und risikoarmes Verfahren erlaubte die cytologische Diagnose bei 54 von 57 Patienten mit Lebertumor (94,7%) und bei 25 von 30 Patienten (83,3%) mit sonographisch lokalisierten Raumforderungen des Pankreas. Bei 22 Patienten lag ein Pakreas-Karzinom vor, dreimal ein malignes Lymphom mit Infiltration der Pankreasloge. Falsch negative Ergebnisse fanden sich in 1,8% bzw. 6,7%, falsch positive cytologische Befunde wurden nicht erhoben. Tau neutrino mass from semileptonic decays

The semileptonic three particle decays of the tau provide determinations of the tau neutrino mass. The shift of the maximal energy of the observable final state particles islinear in the neutrino mass. The endpoint energy of the pion and a partially integrated decay rate in τ → πωvτ and τ → πρVτ are sensitive to a neutrino mass smaller than 100 MeV. Thus, the present bound on\(m_{v_\tau } \) can significantly be improved.

IgM-Antikörper gegen Hepatitis B core-Antigen (anti-HBc IgM) bei “gesunden” HBsAg-Trägern. Eine Verlaufsstudie bei 75 Fällen

In 75 healthy HBsAg carriers with normal liver tissue who were followed over a four years period, anti-HBc IgM was determined by ELISA. 61 HBsAg carriers (81%) were positive for anti-HBc IgM at first investigation. 54 individuals demonstrated persistence of anti-HBc IgM, 7 became anti-HBc IgM-negative within the observation period. 12 persons were persistent anti-HBc IgM-negative, and 2 developed anti-HBc IgM of low quantities. 3 of 4 individuals with HBsAg clearance demonstrated a considerable decrease of anti-HBc IgM concentration. Chloracne following Environmental Contamination by TCDD in Seveso, Italy

Data are presented on the occurrence of chloracne, clinical symptoms and biochemical changes in 164 children following environmental contamination by TCDD from an industrial accident in Seveso, Italy. An overall positive association was found between the territorial distribution of chloracne cases and the different levels of soil contamination in the affected area. Individual risk factors such as condition and length of exposure, intake via contaminated foods, etc. were evaluated; no single factor appeared to be associated with chloracne. Decay of 0 2 + states in88,92,94Zr andE0 systematics of Zr isotopes

Branching ratios ofE0 andE2 transitions depopulating the 0 2 + states of88, 92, 94Zr have been determined using conversion-electron and γ-ray spectroscopy. Two different lifetime-measurement methods were applied in the remeasurement of the half-lives of the 0 2 + states in92, 94Zr, yielding consistent results ofT 1/2(0 2 + ,92Zr)=85(15) ps andT 1/2(0 2 + ,94Zr)=280(40) ps. The monopole strengths extracted areρ 2(92Zr)=8.4(17) ×10−3 andρ 2(94Zr)=11.9(20)×10−3. The proton configurations of the 0 2 + states are discussed in view of these values and proton transfer data.

Orientational glass behaviour of K Br0.96(CN)0.04

Ultrasonic measurements on the mixed crystal K Br0.96(CN)0.04 show a minimum of most of the elastic constants at 16 K. In addition we determinedc11(T) at 10 MHz and at 50 MHz observing dispersion effects. These results and previous Brillouin and neutron scattering results of other authors on higher CN-concentrations are interpreted by an orientational glass behaviour. A semiquantitative description is given in terms of the mean random field approximation.

New nitrogen mustard analogues in which bis(2-chloroethyl)-amino groups are separated by oxyethylene groups, 1,14-dichloro-3,12-bis(2-chloroethyl)-3,12-diaza-6,9-dioxatetradecan (3c) and 1,17-dichloro-3,15-bis(2-chloroethyl)-3,15-diaza-6,9,12-trioxaheptadecane (3d), were synthesized by reaction of bis(2-hydroxyethyl)amine (2) with bis(2-chloroethyoxy)ethylene (1a) and with 1,11-dichloro-3,6,9-trioxaundecane (1b), respectively, followed by treatment with thionyl chloride. The analogues were then complexed with heparin. The resulting heparin-complexes show inhibiting activity against transplanted Sarcoma-180 A in mice.

Purification of a nuclease from human serum.

The purification procedure for a nuclease from human serum is described. It includes ammonium sulfate precipitation, chromatography on DEAE-Sephadex and on Sephacryl-S 200, and preparative electrophoresis. The enzyme, purified about 2000-fold, is homogeneous in a sodium dodecyl sulfate electrophoretic system, where it has a mol. wt of 78,000. The pH optimum lies around pH 6.5; it is a sugar-nonspecific endonuclease.

Die Anwendung der Hennigschen Methode insbesondere auf rein fossile Gruppen wird am Beispiel verschiedener Niederer Tetrapoden diskutiert. Es wird dabei gezeigt, das eine genealogische Rekonstruktion im Sinne Hennigs nur sehr beschrankt moglich und mit bedeutenden Fehlerquellen behaftet ist. Die Ursachen dafur liegen a) in der unzureichenden Fossiluberlieferung und der dadurch bedingten Armut an genealogisch verwertbaren Merkmalen, b) in dem Fehlen neuer Losungsmoglichkeiten fur die entscheidenden Problemfragen der Phylogenetik (Parallelentwicklung, Lesrichtungsentscheidung).

Commutators of second-class axial currents with normal weak currents and consequences for particle decays

Second-class weak axial currents are studied in the framework of normal weak and electromagnetic currents. Equal time commutators between normal and abnormal axial currents and the isoscalar electromagnetic current are postulated and their consequences are worked out. A number of predictions for masses, coupling constants and decay properties are derived and are compared to available data.

On the function of cell systems in area 18. Part I

In addition to the asymmetry of the spatial coupling and of the specific temporal combination of excitation and inhibition, the non-linearity is very pronounced in area 18. Taking the sequence of a linear operation and a stationary nonlinear characteristic as a model, the experimental findings can be systematized and a cell classification specified which departs from the customary ones. The hypercomplex cell system probably originates in recurrent inhibition and leads to differentiation of the patterns along their contour line. Problems of cell classification and of the type of parallelism in the visual cortex are discussed.

In order to investigate the influences of different end-groups on oligomer miscibility with other substances, oligo(propylene glycol)s bearing OH groups (OPG-OH) studied in the previous paper2, were acetylated at both ends (OPG-AC). The limits of miscibility of OPG-AC with oligo(dimethylsiloxane) (ODMS) were measured turbidimetrically. A simple and reliable method for the determination of the critical points from turbidity data is presented. High spin shell model excitations in149Gd

The high spin level structure of the three-neutron nucleus149Gd has been investigated by in-beamγ-ray and electron spectroscopy with (α, xn) reactions. The observed levels are characterized as members of the shell model multipletsνf 7 2/3 ,νh 9/2 f 7 2/2 ,νf 7 2/3 ×3−,νh 9/2 f 7 2/2 ×3−, and tentativelyνf 7 2/3 ×(3−)2. The energies of theν f 7 2/3 states agree only moderately with those calculated using empirical two-nucleon interactions taken from148Gd, which indicates the importance of long range contributions already atN=85.

Three cyclopentamers (2a–c) and a chainlike pentanuclear oligomer (3a) were prepared by stepwise syntheses. The molecules of the cyclic compounds with 20 links contain o,o′-methylene bridged 2-hydroxy-5-methyl-1,3-phenylene or 2-hydroxy-5-tert-butyl-1,3-phenylene units in a strictly defined manner. The properties of the cyclic pentamer 2a and the chainlike pentanuclear oligomer 3a were compared. They differ by their solubilities, melting points, IR and 1H NMR spectra (pseudorotation) and fragmentation behaviour shown by their mass spectra. The pseudorotation of the cyclic compounds were quantitatively studied.

Aβ-RADOP (β-Radiation Detected Optical Pumping) experiment on the short lived (T1/2=203 ms)96Rb isotope has been performed at the on line mass separator for fission produced alkali isotopes at the TRIGA reactor in Mainz. Irradiation of r.f. onto the polarized sample to induce Zeeman transitions resulted in two signals for nuclear spinsI=2 andI=1. The previously undetermined component withI=1 is interpreted as evidence for an isomeric state in96Rb.

Refractive indices and refractive index increments of the system polystyrene/trans-decalin were measured under pressures up to 500 bar and at temperatures between 20 and 60°C. The measurements were performed with a new, recently designed interferometer. The results demonstrate a sufficient agreement of the refractive index values measured at different temperatures and pressures with the equations of Eykman and Gladstone-Dale whereas the Lorenz-Lorentz equation indicates larger deviations. Abstract A complete series of diphenyl and mixed methyl/chlorine/bromine/iodinephenyl substituted oxadithia- and trithiastannocanes has been prepared by reactions between the respective disodium dithiolates and tin dihalides. The 13C NMR chemical shifts of these compounds and the coupling constants J(119Sn13C) are dependent upon the magnetic anisotropy of the substituents and the bond angles at the tin atom. The central innervation of the guinea-pig pineal gland was investigated by histological and electrophysiological methods: Staining the pineal gland and the epithalamus, a double route of central innervation could be shown in the anterior part of the organ: (a) Fibres from the habenular nuclei, mainly from the lateral part, penetrate the organ via the pineal stalk. The interaction of poly(L-glutamic acid) with 3,6-dioxaoctamethylenediamine was studied by circular dichroism spectroscopy under different conditions. In aqueous solution at pH 5,6 and in aqueous 1,4-dioxane (30–50 vol.-%) at pH 7,3 the conformation of poly(L-glutamic acid) was completely changed from α-helical to random coil in the presence of an excess of the diamine.

The rate constants for the esterification of some 3-, 4-, and 5-substituted thiophene-2-carboxylic acids with diazodiphenylmethane in methanol at 25° have been measured. The reactivity of some para- and ortho-substituted benzoic acids has also been determined. Logarithmic kinetic constants for ortho-, meta-, and para-like substituted thiophene-2-carboxylic acids furnish an excellent linear free energy relationship when plotted versus Δpka (β 0.89, r 0.989, C.L. > 99.9%, n 18, i 0.04), thus confirming the peculiar behaviour of five-membered ring derivatives. Some 1-phenyl-3-R-5-aminopyrazoles reacted with methyl salicylate to give N-(1-phenyl-3-R-pyrazol-5-yl)-2-methoxybenzamides (3a,b,c), 1-phenyl-2-methyl-3-R-salicyloilimino-3-pyrazolines (4a,b,c) together with 1-phenyl-3-R-5-methylamino pyrazoles (5a,b,c). The structures of the new compounds 3 and 4 were determined on the basis of analytical and spectroscopic data as well as on the acid hydrolysis products.

In sponges there exists a graft rejection mechanism in which an inhibitory aggregation factor is involved. The inhibitory aggregation factor has been isolated from a culture medium containing dissociated cells of the sponge Geodia cydonium. Using ion-exchange and gel fractionation the factor was purified and shown to be electrophoretically pure. The factor has a molecular weight of 27000 and was characterized as a glycoprotein. The activity of the inhibitory aggregation factor was not affected by heat treatment, but treatment with trichloroacetic acid resulted in the irreversible loss of activity. In the cerebral hemispheres of the chick embryo, the level of nucleoside phosphotransferase activity is much higher than that of thymidine kinase and it increases progressively during development up to the adult stage. Therefore nucleoside phosphotransferase is not coupled with DNA synthesis.
