The Increase and Cumulation of Round-Off Errors
1970
To give an impression of how fast round-off errors may increase even in a not really ill-conditioned case, a short numerical example shall be discussed before reporting the results of the computer runs. The problem is to compute $${\rm{e}}\,{\rm{ = }}\,{\rm{a}}\,{\rm{ - }}\,{\rm{b}}{\rm{.c}}$$ and $${\rm{g}}\,{\rm{ = }}\,{\rm{d}}\,{\rm{ - }}\,{\rm{e}}{\rm{.f}}$$

Investigations on the genetics and population genetics of the ?2 polymorphism
1970
The results of studies on 49 families with 107 children and various populations of Caucasoid, Negroid and Mongoloid origin concerning the genetics and population genetics of the β2-glycoprotein I polymorphism are reported. In general the genetical model proposed by Cleve (1968) is confirmed: two autosomal alleles BgN and BgD controlling the phenotypes Bg N-N, Bg N-D and Bg D-D. However, divergences from this model were found in two families. They indicate the assumption of non-genetic factors influencing the phenotype expression rather than more complicated genetical control mechanisms. Within Caucasoid populations phenotype and gene frequencies show almost a homogeneous distribution. This …

The distributor is of centrifugal type, formed of a horizontal disc with 6 pallets with adjusted position. Above the disc is…
Influence of the Liquefied Starch Composition and pH on the Saccharification at the Obtaining of Maltose Syrup
1970
In this paper the influence of the composition of the liquefied starch and of pH on the quality of saccharification at the obtaining of maltose syrup is investigated. A large number of experiments (68) in various liquefaction conditions show that Dextrose Equivalent (DE) and the composition in hydrolysis products with Degree of Polymerisation higher as four (DP ≥4) in the liquefied starch have a strong influence on the saccharification products, mainly on the maltose content in the maltose syrups. The liquefied starch with DE lower as 25 has smaller amounts of DP ≥4 (40 to 60%), whereas the liquefied starch with DE between 25 and 27 has high amounts of DP ≥4 (60 to 80%). For the production …
Das Chinese Postman’s Problem
1970
Characterization of the Purified Fourth Component of Guinea Pig Complement* *Supported by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (grant Kl 124/9).
1970
Publisher Summary A strain of rabbits deficient in complement was discovered in Freiburg, Germany in 1961. A second, clearly unrelated, strain was reported in Mexico. Both these strains are deficient in C6. A further complement-deficient rabbit was found by chance in Cambridge. This paper presents some data on the colony bred from this animal. C6 was partially purified from rabbit serum by chromatography on DEAE Cellulose and hydroxyapatite. Antibody to rabbit C6 in deficient rabbits was raised by four weekly injections of alum precipitated C6 with Bordetella pertussis as adjuvant into the knee joints, followed by three intravenous injections of the alum precipitated material without B. per…
1970
The effect of chemically modified deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) on enzymatic DNA-synthesis in vitro has been investigated with analogues of DNA prepared without either purine bases (apurinic acid, APA) or pyrimidine bases (apyrimidinic acid, APyA). DNA-synthesis in vitro was studied with the deoxynucleotide polymerizing enzymes purified from calf thymus (replicative and terminal deoxynucleotidyltransferase respectively).
On groups with abelian Sylow 2-subgroups
1970
Finite groups with abelian Sylow 2-subgroups have been classified by Walter [8]. In this note I want to describe an alternate proof of some partial result of Walter's work, namely the theorem stated below. It represents the first major reduction step in that classification. The approach used here is to some extent derived from [1]. ! Besides the groups L 2 (q)= PSL(2, q) another class of simple groups enters our discussion: We say that a simple group G with abelian Sz-subgroups is of type JR (Janko-Ree) if, for any involution t in G, CG (t) is a maximal subgroup of G isomorphic to ( t ) | E where PSL(2, q)~ E ~_ PFL(2, q) with odd q > 5. In fact, E = L 2 (q), as proved by Walter 1-7] ; and …
