Organizing for What: Job Rotation as an Organizational Development Strategy or as an Organizational anti-Corruption Tool?

2021

The purpose of this article is to understand if Job Rotation (JR)/Organizational Development (OD)-oriented strategies are compatible with JR strategies to curb Organizational Corruption (OC), as these strategies seem to indicate an apparent contradiction. To this end, the paper is structured as follows. Firstly, the main points of JR-Theory in organizational studies are displayed. Subsequently, JR-Theory in organizational anti-corruption is more deeply explored. At the end of the review, the research question is proposed in the methodological section. The two sections after that are devoted to answering this question. The first of which examines the laws and documents of the National Anti-C…

Assessing the Electrochemical Performance of Different Nanostructured CeO2 Samples as Anodes for Lithium-Ion Batteries

2021

In this work, six samples of CeO2 are successfully prepared by diverse synthesis routes leading to different microstructures regarding both morphology and particle size. The structural and microstructural characteristics presented by the samples and their influence on the electrochemical response of the prepared anodes are analyzed. In particular, the Ce-CMK3 sample, synthesized from a mesoporous carbon obtained through a CMK3 silica template, displays an enhanced electrochemical response. Thus, capacity values of ~220 mA h g−1 are obtained at a current rate of 0.155 A g−1 after 50 cycles and an excellent cyclability at intermediate current densities. On the other hand, it is observed that …

Being Carried Away : Fink and Winnicott on the Locus of Playing

2021

Abstract The article investigates the question of the experiential location of the area of play, comparing the accounts of Eugen Fink and Donald Winnicott. It argues that while Fink builds on the phenomenological distinction between subjective phantasy and external perception, and accordingly introduces the area of play as a hybrid realm, a peculiar combination of the two, Winnicott considers the area of play as something that underlies and developmentally precedes the experiential differentiation between phantasy and external reality. While from Fink’s viewpoint Winnicott’s model neglects a central phenomenological distinction, from Winnicott’s viewpoint Fink’s account, in turn, appears ad…

Effects of canagliflozin on serum potassium in people with diabetes and chronic kidney disease: the CREDENCE trial

2021

Abstract Aims  Hyperkalaemia is a common complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and limits the optimal use of agents that block the renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system, particularly in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). In patients with CKD, sodium‒glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors provide cardiorenal protection, but whether they affect the risk of hyperkalaemia remains uncertain. Methods and results  The CREDENCE trial randomized 4401 participants with T2DM and CKD to the SGLT2 inhibitor canagliflozin or matching placebo. In this post hoc analysis using an intention-to-treat approach, we assessed the effect of canagliflozin on a composite outcome of time to eith…

Matrix Isolation FTIR and Theoretical Study of Weakly Bound Complexes of Isocyanic Acid with Nitrogen.

2021

Weak complexes of isocyanic acid (HNCO) with nitrogen were studied computationally employing MP2, B2PLYPD3 and B3LYPD3 methods and experimentally by FTIR matrix isolation technique. The results show that HNCO interacts specifically with N2. For the 1:1 stoichiometry, three stable minima were located on the potential energy surface. The most stable of them involves a weak, almost linear hydrogen bond from the NH group of the acid molecule to nitrogen molecule lone pair. Two other structures are bound by van der Waals interactions of N⋯N and C⋯N types. The 1:2 and 2:1 HNCO complexes with nitrogen were computationally tracked as well. Similar types of interactions as in the 1:1 complexes were …

Investigating Centrality Measures in Social Networks with Community Structure

2021

Centrality measures are crucial in quantifying the influence of the members of a social network. Although there has been a great deal of work dealing with this issue, the vast majority of classical centrality measures are agnostic of the community structure characterizing many social networks. Recent works have developed community-aware centrality measures that exploit features of the community structure information encountered in most real-world complex networks. In this paper, we investigate the interactions between 5 popular classical centrality measures and 5 community-aware centrality measures using 8 real-world online networks. Correlation as well as similarity measures between both t…

Listening to and Living With Networked Media During a Pandemic

2021

This article explores mediated listening from the perspective of intimacy during the first weeks of the coronavirus pandemic. The theoretical frame builds on the literature on listening and presence in mediated environments, audience engagement, and intimacy as meaningful connections. Methodologically, the study is connective ethnography, and the data was collected by collaborative autoethnography. Our data show that listening was an individual sensemaking strategy of the outside world and a means to form connectedness. Threading between different screens on digital platforms caused the collapse of public and private contexts, and through these, particular types of intimacy arose. When the …

D3 Dihedral Logistic Map of Fractional Order

2021

In this paper, the D3 dihedral logistic map of fractional order is introduced. The map presents a dihedral symmetry D3. It is numerically shown that the construction and interpretation of the bifurcation diagram versus the fractional order requires special attention. The system stability is determined and the problem of hidden attractors is analyzed. Furthermore, analytical and numerical results show that the chaotic attractor of integer order, with D3 symmetries, looses its symmetry in the fractional-order variant.

Buone prassi traduttive dei termini del linguaggio medico nelle opere di Galdós: l’esempio di "Fortunata y Jacinta"

2021

In this paper, through the study of some terms present in the novel Fortunata y Jacinta by Galdós that refer to the medical and pharmaceutical field, we want to carry out a reflection on some ‘best practices’ that the translator can use in his rewriting work, considered as the result of a cognitive operation, a complex intrigue of acquisition, categorization, reflective observation, elaboration, experimentation and creation of emotional-motivational dynamics which has, as its ultimate product, the recreation of the metatext. These 'best practices' fall to all intents and purposes in the topics to be treated within a teaching of translation with a neurolinguistic slant. In quest’articolo, at…

Monitoring the effects of therapeutic interventions in depression through self-assessments

2021

The treatment of major psychiatric disorders is an arduous and thorny path for the patients concerned, characterized by polypharmacy, massive adverse side effects, modest prospects of success, and constantly declining response rates. The more important is the early detection of psychiatric disorders prior to the development of clinically relevant symptoms, so that people can benefit from early interventions. A well-proven approach to monitoring mental health relies on voice analysis. This method has been successfully used with psychiatric patients to ‘objectively’ document the progress of improvement or the onset of relapse. The studies with psychiatric patients over 2-4 weeks demonstrated …

CREBBP/EP300 acetyltransferase inhibition disrupts FOXA1-bound enhancers to inhibit the proliferation of ER+ breast cancer cells.

2021

ABSTRACTTherapeutic targeting of the estrogen receptor (ER) is a clinically validated approach for estrogen receptor positive breast cancer (ER+ BC), but sustained response is limited by acquired resistance. Targeting the transcriptional coactivators required for estrogen receptor activity represents an alternative approach that is not subject to the same limitations as targeting estrogen receptor itself. In this report we demonstrate that the acetyltransferase activity of coactivator paralogs CREBBP/EP300 represents a promising therapeutic target in ER+ BC. Using the potent and selective inhibitor CPI-1612, we show that CREBBP/EP300 acetyltransferase inhibition potently suppresses in vitro…

Neuvostourheilun nousu ja tuho

2021

Venäjä oli yksi Kansainvälisen Olympiakomitean perustajajäsenistä vuonna 1894. Venäläiset osallistuivat Lontoon olympiakisoihin vuonna 1908 ja Tukholman kisoihin neljää vuotta myöhemmin. Vuoden 1917 sosialistinen vallankumous muutti koko valtion – mukaan luettuna urheilun käytännöt. Vuosina 1918–1921 käydyn verisen sisällissodan ja vuonna 1922 tapahtuneen Neuvostoliiton perustamisen jälkeen valtio pyrki organisoimaan uudelleen koko ruumiinkulttuurin. Neuvostoliittolaisessa ruumiinkulttuurissa ihannoitiin sotilaallista valmiutta, työkuntoisuutta ja urheilullisuutta. Kilpaurheilun suosio kasvoi huomattavasti 1920-luvulla. Vuonna 1928 venäläiset organisoivat mahtavat urheilukisat, Moskovan spa…

A Patchworking Process : Coming Together under Pandemic Conditions for Collaborative, Caring Scholarship

2021

In the context of the COVID-19 outbreak, the authors in this special issue came together within the Massive Microscopic Sensemaking (MMS) writing project in the spring of 2020. Collectively grappling with the impact of the extended pandemic, each paper in this issue touches on experiences of social isolation, making do, and a technological reaching out under conditions of a public health crisis. This introduction describes the issue’s ‘patchwork’ development which reflects an attempt to break from traditions of academic scholarship that often fail to recognize the value of emergent, and therefore uncertain, cross-disciplinary and collective work.

Anti-gender campaigns, common in Europe in recent years, have a long history in Spain promoted by organizations such a…

Il ruolo della cultura nel progetto comunitario di Adriano Olivetti

2021

Adriano Olivetti (1901-1960) was the promoter of an unprecedented business project that not only concerned the economic sphere, but also included architecture, social development, politics, the value of the person and of the culture. This paper examines the educational role played by culture in the Olivetti’s project as a way of human growth. To clarify the identity of the Olivetti’s culture, various sources were questioned: the personal library, the editorial choices, his coworkers and the good educational practices carried out in the Olivetti factory. These are pieces of a mosaic through which was possible to reconstruct the Olivettian ideal of a culture that, placed at the center of its …

Quantification of Platinum in Edible Mushrooms Using Voltammetric Techniques

2021

Edible mushrooms are a food source with interesting nutritional values. The chief objective of this research was to develop a consistent method for the quantitative ultra-trace analysis of Pt in mushrooms, which is complex because it cannot be readily quantified by common analytical procedures. This research is one of the first analytical methods to establish Pt amount in these vegetables. In this research, 28 different edible mushroom samples from Italy were investigated. Determination of Pt in mushrooms was completed using Differential Pulse Voltammetry (DPV). In this study, we applied the standard addition method because there are no certified reference mushrooms containing platinum grou…

The importance of tight junctions in the blood-brain barrier

2021

There are two barriers in the central nervous system (CNS) responsible for maintaining the homeostatic balance of the human body’s internal environment in relation to external conditions: the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and the blood-cerebrospinal fluid barrier (BCSFB). The blood-brain barrier is a physical barrier with a fixed location between the blood and the nervous tissue. Its basic structural elements include endothelial cells of the brain capillaries, astrocytes and pericytes. The blood-brain barrier is the barrier between the blood and neurons which isolates the central nervous system from the rest of the body in a unique manner. The blood-brain barrier is formed by astrocytes and per…

Quantitative infrared near-field imaging of suspended topological insulator nanostructures

2021

The development of nanoscale solid-state devices exploiting the promising topological surface states of topological insulator materials requires careful device engineering and improved materials quality. For instance, the introduction of a substrate, device contact or the formation of oxide layers can cause unintentional doping of the material, spoiling the sought-after properties. In support of this, nanoscale imaging tools can provide useful materials information without the need for complex device fabrication. Here we study Bi$_2$Se$_3$ nanoribbons suspended across multiple material stacks of SiO$_2$ and Au using infrared scattering scanning near-field optical microscopy. We validate our…

Investigation of the Thermomechanical Response of Cyclically Loaded NiTi Alloys by Means of Temperature Frequency Domain Analyses

2021

Nickel–Titanium (NiTi) shape memory alloys subjected to cyclic loading exhibit reversible temperature changes whose modulation is correlated with the applied load. This reveals the presence of reversible thermomechanical heat sources activated by the applied stresses. One such source is the elastocaloric effect, accounting for the latent heat of Austenite–Martensite phase transformation. It is, however, observed that when the amplitude of cyclic loads is not sufficient to activate or further propagate this phase transformation, the material still exhibits a strong cyclic temperature modulation. The present work investigates the thermomechanical behaviour of NiTi under such low-amplitude cyc…
