Abstract The synthesis and X-ray crystallographic characterization of three monomeric transition-metal coordination compounds with the ligand methazolamide {[N(4-methyl-2- sulphamoyl-Δ21,3,4-thiodiazolin-5-ylidene)],acetamide} (abbreviated as Hmacm) are described, via [M(macm)2(py)2(OH2)2] [M  Co(1), Ni(2) and Cu(3)]. In all the compounds the metal ion, lying on the centre of symmetry, is surrounded by two sulphonamidato nitrogen atoms and two pyridine nitrogen atoms in equatorial sites and two oxygen water molecules in axial positions. Abstract Water samples from eight wells in the Vulcano Porto area and fumarole steam from the crater of Vulcano (Southern Italy) were collected at monthly intervals over a two-year period from February 1987 to January 1989. Samples of bulk precipitation were also collected in three points at Vulcano Porto and Vulcano Piano (island of Vulcano) and Castroreale (Tyrrhenian coast of Sicily), again at monthly intervals. We carried out a DNA-ploidy, morphometric-stereologic and P-glycoprotein study on 40 newly diagnosed superficial bladder cancer patients (G1-G2), correlating the results with histological grade and clinical outcome. Variations in the number of patients who present recurrences, progression or remain tumor-free during the whole follow-up period (at least 5 years) were not significant when related to nuclear size, proliferative diploid index, presence of aneuploidy and expression of P-glycoprotein. Los autores presentan un caso de fascitis necrotizante en miembro superior causada por la combinación de bacterias estreptococo microaerofílico y estafilococo aureus. El paciente ha sobrevivido con una pérdida orgánica mínima (amputación del quinto dedo) y una recuperación funcional completa. Se destaca el papel de la antibioterapia precoz. The authors report a case of necrotizing fascitis of the upper limb, produced by a microaerophilic streptococcus and staphilococcus aureus. The only organic sequelae for the patient was amputation of the little finger with a complete recovery of the functional capacity. The role of the early institution of high dose antibiotic therapy is emphasized.

El presente trabajo analiza, desde un punto de vista hidrogeomorfológico, el modelado de la fosa de Casinos-Llíria (Valencia), con ambiente climático de tendencia semiárida. Sobre un extenso glacis de acumulación formado mediante la coalescencia de conos aluviales se produce la incisión de cárcavas que se encajan en la llanura y que presentan una morfología similar a la descrita para los arroyos del suroeste norteamericano. Se estudia la dinámica evolutiva de los conos aluviales y se analizan algunos de los procesos de incisión-acumulación recientes.

Pion double charge exchange reactions leading to deeply bound double pionic atoms

We study theoretically pion double charge exchange reactions leading to double pionic atoms. The reaction cross-sections with two pions in the deeper bound pionic orbits in 208Pb are calculated with realistic pionic atom wave functions and distortion effects. The cross-sections are found to be d2σ/dEdΩ~10−3−10−4 µb/srMeV, which are only a small fraction of the double charge exchange background.

Abstract From the acetone extract of Carduus tenuiflorus , a new coumarin-hemiterpene ether was isolated, which was identified as 6-(3,3-dimethylallyloxy)-7-methoxycoumarin. The synthesis of this coumarin and that of its positional isomer 7-(3,3-dimethylallyloxy)-6-methoxycoumarin were carried out from esculetin. Two other coumarins, three lignans and three flavonoids were also isolated.
