Los autores presentan un análisis de la consolidación de las fracturas de diáfisis del radio tratadas mediant e osteosíntesis de autocompresión tipo "Bagby", en 30 pacientes atendidos en el Departamento de Ortopedia y Traumatología del "Hospital das Clínicas" de la F.M.U.S.P., en el período de 1975 a 1985. 24 (80%) paciente s eran hombre s y 6 (20%) mujeres, con edade s comprendidas entr e 18 y 47 años (edad media 30.1 años). Abstract The aminomercuration of cis - cis -1,5-Cyclooctadiene with a series of mercury(II) salts followed by nucleophilic displacement of mercury by aromatic amines, water and nitrate ion has been studied. As a result, bicyclic triamines, aminoalcohols and nitrate esters have been obtained respectively in clean processes which occur under total stereoelectronic control by involvement of a tricyclic aziridium ion to afford a single stereoisomer in each case. The influence of the counter ion and the basicity of the amine on the tandem aminomercuration-demercuration is discussed.

In an effort to elucidate the mechanism of liver damage resulting from Hepatitis A virus (HAV) infection, we have studied infected skin fibroblasts and autologous lymphocytes from HAV patients. Basic theoretical considerations on the statistical properties of the speckle phenomenon indicate that a conventional quantization (intervals of uniform width) of the received and envelope detected RF — signal is not adequate. Diffusion coefficients in the gas phase are typically four orders of magnitude larger than those in the liquid phase. The present study aimed to evaluate gastric emptying in children with gastroesophageal reflux (GER) by means of real-time ultrasonography, on the basis of measurements of the cross-sectional area of the gastric antrum. Effects of paper mill effluents on the fish fauna of stony shores of Lake Päijänne

The fish fauna of the stony littoral in the central parts of L. Paijanne was studied by electric fishing on four occasions during 1988–1989. Ten fish species and 1681 individuals (14.5 kg) were caught in the 15 fishing sites (4096 m2) which gives a mean density of 0.41 ind. m-2 and biomass of 3.5 g m-2. Effluent from two large paper mills causes a clear zonation of the fish fauna in the area. In the most polluted shores, only burbot and perch occurred regularly and the reproduction of other species was inhibited. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue determinar el potencial osteogénico de la proteína morfogenética ósea (BMP) en la reparación de grandes defectos diafisarios. Además, se investiga la acción coadyuvante de la fibronectina (FN). La BMP fue extraída a partir de hueso cortical bovino. Se utilizaron un total de 108 ratas Sprague Dawley. En cada animal, se resecó un segmento de diáfisis femoral de 1.5 cm, siendo inmovilizado el defecto óseo con una aguja en omega. This paper presents Visual Heuristics, a consultation system for diagnosis based on thorax radiograph recording. Visual Heuristics uses both prototypical representations of physiological and pathological states and reasoning aimed to infer conclusions from pathological or physiological conditions, establishing correspondences between pathological or physiological states and semantic descriptions of images. Images are assembled with groups of descriptors that guide the recognition process, achieving the possibility of comparisons with real images on the basis of 'expected' images. The system may be employed to generate a dynamic atlas that does not contain proper images, but generates them.

Effects of Methoxamine on Spontaneous Uterine Activity and Blood Flow of the Rat Uterus ‘in vivo’

The vascular (blood pressure, heart rate and peripheral blood flow) and uterine (spontaneous motility) responses to intravenous methoxamine were studied in anaesthetized rats pre-treated with diethylstilboestrol. Methoxamine produced an increase (0.5-2 mg/kg) or did not modify (0.01 and 3 mg/kg) spontaneous uterine motility. The alpha 1-agonist also induced a hypertensive effect (0.1-3 mg/kg) accompanied by bradycardia at the highest doses, and a decrease in blood flow significantly greater in intestinal than uterine tissues. These effects were abolished by prazosin. The uterine action of methoxamine in vivo appears to result from the balance between myometrial alpha 1-excitatory effect and…

We have searched for possible fourth family heavy neutrinos, pair produced in Z0 decays, in a sample of about 112 000 hadronic Z0 final states collected with the DELPHI detector. For all mixing matrix elements we exclude a new Dirac neutrino lighter than 44.5 GeV at a 95% confidence level, if the neutrino couples to the electron or muon family, and lighter than 44.0 GeV, if the neutrino couples to the tau family. Depending on the values of the mixing element and to which lepton family the neutrino couples, we obtain mass limits up to 46.2 GeV.
