Some aspects of the seasonal variation of carbon dioxide and ozone

An attempt is made to estimate the seasonal source function, Q , of CO 2 on the basis of data for the biosphere, provided by Lieth, and for other sources. The variation of soil respiration appears to be the most uncertain factor. The resulting CO 2 variations in the atmosphere are calculated for horizontal exchange coefficients, K , which vary with latitude. Comparison with observations given by Bolin & Keeling shows that the results are not very sensitive with respect to the assumed variations of Q and of K with latitude. Previous results on the 0 3 budget are used to calculate seasonal variations of tropospheric 0 3 for stratospheric injection rates, and K values which vary with latitude.…

Zusammenfassung Von der Flechte Thyrea radiata konnten erstmals Apothecien untersucht werden. Nach Bau und Entwicklung der Apothecien sowie auf Grund des Vorkommens von Hormocystangien gehort die Flechte zur Gattung Lempholemma. Die neue Kombination Lempholemma radiatum wurde gemacht. Der Bau der Hormocystangien bei verschiedenen Lempholemma-Arten wird kurz geschildert. L. radiatum wurde erstmals im kontinentalen Nordamerika, in Alberta und Alaska, gesammelt.

Calculations and measurements of the spectral radiance of the solar aureole

The application of the theory of primary scattering to describe and interpret the spectral distribution of the sky radiance is discussed. It is shown that within the solar aureole the influence of the scattering of higher order can be neglected. Theoretical calculations of the spectral distribution of the sky radiance, carried out by Bullrich et al . (1965) based on an exponential aerosol size distribution with an upper limiting particle radius r = 10 ?, have been extended to r = 150 ?. The detailed study of the influence of these “giant” particles revealed that aerosol particles of r >30 ? have no effect on the sky radiation any more. The results of a population genetic investigation on Iranians are given and compared to the results obtained on other populations from Southwestern and Southern Asia. Our total material from Iran comprises n=1020 nonrelated male and female individuals of different age. The following serum groups have been typed: Hp, Gc, Gm, and Inv. In general there exist no remarkable age or sex differences in the distribution of phenotypes and alleles (the only exception: sex differences in the distribution of the Gm (7)-phenotype). Bakterieller �pfels�ureabbau in deutschen spitzenweinen

Durch chromatographische Untersuchungen des Gehaltes an Apfelsaure und Milchsaure in 1271 Weinen wurde die Haufigkeit des bakteriellen Saureabbaus bestimmt. In fast 80% der Rotweine war ein vollstandiger Saureabbau nachweisbar, dagegen nur in 10% der untersuchten Weisweine. Die Ergebnisse der Geschmacksbeurteilung der Rotweine liesen keinen Unterschied zwischen Rotweinen mit und ohne Saureabbau erkennen. Von den Weisweinen mit Saureabbau wurde ein groserer Anteil ungunstig beurteilt als von den Weisweinen, in denen kein bakerieller Apfeksaureabbau erfolgt war.

Umwandlungserscheinungen in amorphen Hochpolymeren beim tempern unterhalb der Glastemperatur

Es wird die zeitliche Anderung der mechanischen Eigenschaften von amorphem PC, PET und PMMA beim isothermen Tempern unterhalb der Glastemperatur untersucht. Dabei ergab sich, das von der Glastemperatur abgeschrecktes Material beim Tempern ein stufenweises Ansteigen des Schubmoduls zeigt, das von einer Abnahme der Dampfung begleitet ist. Kurzzeitiges Uberschreiten der Glastemperatur mit nachfolgendem Abschrecken macht die durch das Tempern bewirkten Anderungen ruckgangig. Die Beobachtungen werden als Platzwechsel von Kettensegmenten im Sinne einer Ausbildung von lokal begrenzten Bereichen hoherer Dichte gedeutet, die sich beim Uberschreiten der Glastemperatur wieder auflosen.

Kohlenhydrattoleranz unter Infusion von Fettemulsionen oder Ketonkörpern

Wahrend intracavaler Infusion von Fettemulsionen mit einer Geschwindigkeit von 1,65 g · kg−1 · Std−1 bei nichtnarkotisierten Ratten sind die Eliminationskonstanten fur Glucose um 43%, fur Sorbit um 26% und fur Xylit um 20% verringert. Chlormethylated polystyrene (crosslinked with 0.5% divinylbenzene) is quaternized with (+)-methyl-n-propyl-phenyl-phosphine. The resultant anion exchanger has a capacity of 2.68 m.equiv./g. Mandelic acid, atrolactic, and rac. tartaric acid could not be resolved into the antipodes on this material.

Recombination between pairs of mutations in a cluster of seven cistrons controlling histidine biosynthesis is highly polarized. The polarity is opposite at the opposite ends of the region. In experiments involving three his mutations it has been shown that recombination is the result of the transfer, from one parent to the other, of a segment going from the distal selected his+ allele to the end of the region. The rate of transfer is inversely proportional to the distance of the transferred his+ allele from the end of the region, at its side. A model of the process of recombination is discussed.

Abstract Measurements of the relative scintillation yields of some liquid organic systems were carried out with several highly soluble scintillator solutes. Self quenching was observed at high concentrations with some of the solutes, but not with others. The results were correlated with the ability of the solute molecules to come together, in a special configuration, close enough to form an association. A study of the atomic models of the solute molecules showed that those moleculeswith chromophor systems which were non-coplanar, or co-planar but shielded by substituent groups, did not produce self quenching. Bericht uber einen Fall von Akrodermatitis chronica atrophicans mit ausgepragter geschlossen-strangformiger Neubildung uber der Ulna. In der Literatur sind bisher nur drei derartige Falle bekannt. Die Histologie des Stranges ergibt eine weitgehende Ubereinstimmung mit dem bekannten histologischen Aufbau der fibroiden Knoten. The angular dependence of spin polarisationP(θ) of electrons elastically scattered by noble gas atomic beams is measured in a double-scattering experiment for electron energies between 40 and 150 eV and over an angular range fromθ=30‡ toθ=150‡. Maximum degree of polarisation measured isP=+ 39.5%±2.6% (Xe; 150eV;θ=60‡). The results are compared with the theoretical values ofCoulthard, which agree approximately with the measurements only for Xenon. For all lower atomic numbers the experimental values are higher than the theoretical ones.
