Shelf-life of mozzarella cheese samples packaged without liquid and stored at different temperatures

The effect of different temperatures on the shelf-life of Mozzarella cheese was studied. pH, non-protein nitrogen, moisture, total proteins, methyl esters of combined fatty acids, Total Viable Count, lactic acid bacteria, enterococci, Micrococcaceae, Enterobacteriaceae, psychrotrophic bacteria, Pseudomonas, yeasts and moulds were evaluated during 9 days of storage at 4 degrees, 7 degrees and 13 degrees C. Samples stored at 4 degrees and 7 degrees C showed insignificant variations in the chemical parameters and acceptable increases of the microbial groups. Samples stored at 13 degrees C exhibited a greater increase in the microbial number and higher non-protein nitrogen.

A flow-through cell with integrated hanging mercury drop electrode for voltammetric, inverse voltammetric, adsorptive voltammetric, and chronoamperometric methods is described. HMDE droplets are automatically formed and renewed. By optimizing the flow-channel the sensitivity could be increased approximately five times in comparison with batch methods using the same deposition conditions.

In this study, involving students between 14 and 16 years old, the psychological dimensions of cognition and personality affected by red-green colour vision deficiencies were investigated. From the results of a factorial analysis it appears that the influence of colour vision abnormality on the psychological factors that we tested is always minor. Colour vision defect is correlated with such cognitive variables as spatial aptitude and visual difference perception, and with such personality variables as praxemia and submission. For the first time, a case is described in which an unknown corpse is identified by the comparison of antemortem and postmortem computed tomographic (CT) images. A posterolateral disc herniation at L5-S1 on the right side, Schmorl's nodes and a lucency in the ilium were found in identical locations in each case. Additionally there were characteristic morphological similarities in the vertebral bodies, spinous processes, transverse processes and neural arches. Thymoma and pure red cell aplasia in a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus.

We present the case of a female patient with a diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) at the age of 54 years. At the age of 63 years, she suffered from malignant thymoma and 3 years after removal of the thymoma a diagnosis of pure red cell aplasia (PRCA) was established. This is, to our knowledge, the first report of the occurrence of SLE, thymoma and PRCA in the same patient. The case is discussed with regard to the already known associations between these diseases.

Se presenta 1 caso de pseudotumor del pisiforme con dolor crónico en eminencia hipotenar y compresión del nervio cubital en un varón de 33 años. El diagnóstico histológico definitivo fue de callo hipertrófico con degeneración cartilaginosa focal del hueso pisiforme. We are developing a new telescope, named FIGARO-IV, for γ-ray astronomy above 100 MeV, in which the electron-positron pairs, produced by photons in lead converters, are tracked in several independent planes of Limited Streamer Tubes (LST). Because of its large sensitive area and good angular resolution, this telescope is well suitable, and competitive with respect to satellite-based detectors as EGRET, to localise discrete γ-ray sources in a relatively short observation time, to detect high-energy γ-ray bursts and to investigate both periodic and random time variability on -ray sources.

Search for exclusive charmless b meson decays with the Delphi detector at Lep

Charmless hadronic decays of beauty mesons have been searched for using the data collected with the DELPHI detector at the LEP collider. Several two, three and four-body decay modes have been investigated. Particle identification was used to distinguish the final states with protons, kaons and pions. Three candidate events selected in two-body decay modes are interpreted as evidence for charmless B decays. No excess has been found in higher multiplicity modes and improved upper limits for some of the branching ratios are given. © 1995.

Comb-shaped poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and PMMA grafted with poly(nbutyl acrylate) (PnBuA) were prepared by radical copolymerisation of ω-methacryloyl-PMMA with MMA and nBuA, respectively. The comb-shaped PMMA is characterised with respect to radius of gyration by using GPC equipped with a multi-angle laser light scattering detector. The radical copolymerisation of the macromonomer with nBuA in toluene follows complex kinetics. The dependence of the relative reactivity of the macromonomer on absolute concentration and on the ratio of comonomers may be explained by preferential solvation of comonomers by segments of their own kind (“bootstrap effect”) or even micelle formation. In this construction strategies determining to which of two classes the function belongs are used as subroutines. Upper and lower bounds for number of necessary strategies are obtained in several models: FIN- and EX-identification and EX-identification with limited number of mindchanges. It is proved that in EX-identification it is necessary to use n(n−1)/2 strategies. In FIN-identification [3n/2 − 2] strategies are necessary and sufficient, in EX-identification with one mindchange- n log2n+o(n log2n) strategies.

Abstract Two methods — voltammetric and high performance liquid Chromatographic (HPLC) — useful for determining ascorbic acid in foods, were compared to ascertain which of them could be used for routine determination of ascorbic acid in infant formulas. Both methods were used to assay 10 identical samples of an adapted cow's milk infant formula and 10 samples of soya protein formula.
