Elastic behaviour of the human tendomuscular system during jumping was investigated by determination of the in vivo Achilles tendon force. A buckle-type transducer was implanted under local anaesthesia around the right Achilles tendon of an adult subject. After calibration, the Achilles tendon force was recorded together with the triceps surae muscle electromyogram activity and high speed filming and ground reaction force during: a maximal vertical jump from a squat position, a maximal vertical jump from an erect standing position with a preliminary counter-movement, and repetitive submaximal hopping on the spot. Se presenta un caso de compresión del nervio cubital por un quiste sinovial a nivel del canal epitrócleo-olecraneano. El tratamiento fue quirúrgico y consistió en la resección del ganglión asociada a la exoneurolisis y transposición anterior del nervio. La evolución fue satisfactoria, produciéndose una mejoría progresiva de sus síntomas preoperatorios. A rare case of cubital nerve compression due to a synovial cyst in the epitrochlear groove is presented. It was treated surgically by cyst resection and exoneurolisis together with anterior transposition of the nerve. The follow-up was satisfactory, with gradual improvement of the previous symptoms.

La comunidad de monjes jerónimos del monasterio de San Miguel de los Reyes, extramuros de Valencia, surgió en 1546 sobre el cenobio cisterciense de San Bernardo de Rascanya o de la Huerta, fundado en el último tercio del siglo XIV. Junto al cambio de orden monástica e intitulación había un proyecto de monumentalizar el cenobio. No obstante, siempre se tuvieron en cuenta las obras preexistentes y en la medida de lo posible éstas fueron asumidas. Learning of regular expressions by pattern matching

We consider the problem of restoring regular expressions from good examples. We describe a natural learning algorithm for obtaining a “plausible” regular expression from one example. The algorithm is based on finding the longest substring which can be matched by some part of the so far obtained expression. We believe that the algorithm to a certain extent mimics humans guessing regular expressions from the same sort of examples. We show that for regular expressions of bounded length successful learning takes time linear in the length of the example, provided that the example is “good”. Study of the β-delayed neutron decay of 17C and 18C

Abstract The β-delayed neutron decays of 17C and 18C have been studied using a time-of-flight array with a high detection efficiency. The 17C and 18C ions were produced by fragmentation of an E A = 69 MeV 22Ne beam. Transitions to several neutron unbound states have been observed for the first time for both decays with total branching ratios of (10.8 ± 2.2)% and (21.4 ± 4.4)%. Half-lives of 193 ± 6 ms and 92 ± 2 ms were found for 17C and 18C, respectively. The results are compared with previous measurements of the β-decays and with shell-model calculations.

Modeling Requirements for Future CASE

In this paper we discuss some requirements for future CASE Computer Aided Software/Systems Engineering environments. These requirements include increased modifiability and flexibility as well as support for process and agent models. The paper reports on recent progress and developments since the neutrino '92 conference in the search for finite neutrino masses by direct mass measurements. Regarding the mass of μ - and τ -neutrino experiments have been finished and come up with somewhat improved upper bounds; the negative m 2 -value for the μ -neutrino could be removed mostly. Indications of a 17 keV neutrino component in β -decay spectra have been disproved by a number of alternative experiments as well as by reanalysis of part of the original data. The usual information in inductive inference for the purposes of learning an unknown recursive function f is the set of all input /output examples (n,f(n)), n ∈ ℕ. In contrast to this approach we show that it is considerably more powerful to work with finite sets of “good” examples even when these good examples are required to be effectively computable. The influence of the underlying numberings, with respect to which the learning problem has to be solved, to the capabilities of inference from good examples is also investigated. It turns out that nonstandard numberings can be much more powerful than Godel numberings.

Modifications of head turning and circling movement following sulpiride microinjections into nucleus accumbens in the rat

The aim of this study was to determine whether a relationship exists between nucleus accumbens D2 receptors, circling behavior, and its first stage, the head turning. Rats were unilaterally lesioned in the substantia nigra with 6-hydroxydopamine and afterward treated with d-amphetamine IP following bilateral intraaccumbens microinjections (1, 5, 10 micrograms/0.5 microliters) of sulpiride, a D2 receptor antagonist. This paper addresses the problem of obtaining maximum likelihood estimates for the three parameters of the exponential power function; the information matrix is derived and the covariance matrix is here presented; the regularity conditions which ensure asymptotic normality and efficiency are examined. A numerical investigation is performed for exploring the bias and variance of the maximum likelihood estimates and their dependence on sample size and shape parameter.

Absence of lightness constancy as a deficit of monochromatic vision

Dark-adapted human subjects arranged a collection of colored papers in a sequence according to their lightness. The sequence of the papers (which appeared gray to the subjects) varied under different illuminant spectra. These variations could be predicted quantitatively from the radiometric data and human scotopic spectral sensitivity. By substitution of natural daylight spectra in the computation it was shown that monochromats cannot perceive lightness reliably under the changing illuminant spectra of our planet. Transcatheter radiofrequency perforation and stent implantation for palliation of pulmonary atresia in a 3060-g infant

In a 3060-g infant with fibromuscular pulmonary atresia an open right ventricular outflow tract was created by means of interventional cardiological methods. Following two inadvertent perforations without sequelae or clinical symptoms, radiofrequency perforation and subsequent balloon dilatation were successfully performed. The implantation of a Palmaz iliac stent led to a predictable communication between the right ventricle and pulmonary artery.

Estudio comparativo de la fijación con o sin cemento en Prótesis Total de Rodilla

Revisamos retrospectivamente una serie de 86 pacientes portadores de 110 prótesis totales modulares de rodilla colocadas como tratamiento de la gonartrosis. Se analizan los resultados obtenidos en los pacientes a los que se le realizó una fijación híbrida cementada (componente femoral no cementado y componente tibial y patelar cementado) respecto a los que se le realizó una prótesis de anclaje biológico sin ningún tipo de cementación.
