Densities and heat capacities at 25[degrees]C were measured for N-octyl-, N-decyl- and N-dodecyl-N-methylpiperidinium chlorides and for N-octyl- and N-dodecylpiperidine hydrochlorides in water as functions of concentration. Enthalpies of dilution at 25[degrees]C and osmotic coefficients at 37[degrees]C of the N-methyl-N-alkylpiperidinium chlorides were also measured as functions of concentration. The quantum version of classical thermodynamic perturbation theory is applied to the ground state of a fluid of spin-1/2 fermions interacting via the Aziz interatomic potential, as a model for liquid 3He. Results from the rapidly-convergent sixth-order calculation about the unperturbed hard-sphere fluid for energy, density and sound velocity at the zero-pressure liquid equilibrium point, lie within a few percent of computer-simulation values and appreciably closer than the most elaborate recent variational calculation. Synthesis and properties of aromatic ionenes

Cationic polyelectrolytes with aromatic segments can be synthesized by a repetitive alkylation reaction. The structure of the products, their synthesis and their solubility are described. All ionenes are not, or only in small amounts, water soluble. The best solubility can be achieved by mixtures of polar protic and aprotic solvents. Variations of the counterion produces sufficient solubility in THF. All ionenes show a typical polyelectrolyte effect. The thermal stability of aromatic ionenes and the glass transition temperature is dominated by the nature of the counterion. Recognition of Chip Forms by Means of Dynamic Force Spectrum Analysis

In this study the ability to identify chip forms occurrs in the turning of austenitic stainless steel using dynamic force spectrum analysis has been tested. For this purpose the frequency spectra obtained from various metal cutting tests were recorded along with the static cutting forces. A dual channel analysis, based on the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), was adopted to help identify the continuous/discontinuous (favourable/unfavourable) chip forming boundary. Summary Quantitative structure-activity relationship is an effective tool in order to predict drug potency. A similar approach is actually developed for peroxisome proliferation induced by substituted carboxylic acids issued from plasticizer metabolism in rats. The study is focused on acids found in rat urine after adipic diester dosings. Levo folinic acid and 5-fluorouracil plus high dose epidoxorubicin as first line treatment for metastatic breast carcinoma

Twenty-two women affected by metastatic breast carcinoma have been treated with a combination of levo folinic acid 100 mg/m 2 plus 5-fluorouracil 450 mg/m 2 i.v. on day 1-2, and epidoxorubicin 75-90 mg/m 2 on day 2. This treatment cycle was repeated every 21-28 days. No patients had previously received chemotherapy for metastatic disease. Fourteen patients (64%) showed a major objective response with 3 complete (14%) and 11 partial responses (50%). Three patients showed a stabilization of disease and 5 (23%) progressed. Hemos realizado un estudio epidemiológico de las fracturas de fémur proximal en personas mayores de 50 años, atendidas en nuestro Hospital durante los años 1990-92. Se valoraron un total de 355 casos. En el período estudiado se observó que las fracturas más numerosas fueron la cervicales, no encontrando diferencias significativas en los ingresos según el período estacional. La edad media de presentación fue de 81 años. La tasa de incidencia fue muy semejante a las otras provincias españolas y menor que la encontrada en los países del Norte de Europa, Inglaterra y Estados Unidos. Abstract The interaction of methazolamide (Hmacm) with Ni(II) ion and ammonia molecules gives rise to the complex of formula [Ni(macm)2(NH3)4]. The complex crystallizes in the monoclinic P21/n space group with a = 14.255(4), b = 7.126(2), c = 12.444(3) A, β = 113.12(3)° and Z = 2. The structure was refined to R = 0.065 (Rw = 0.065). The complex consists of monomeric units which interact through hydrogen bonds and van der Waals contacts. The Ni(II) ion is coordinated with the deprotonated sulfonamido nitrogen of the macm− ligand in axial sites and the ammonia molecules in equatorial positions. IR, electronic spectra and 1H NMR results are also reported.

Abstract This study examined dispositional and situative antecedents of vigilant and avoidant coping behavior. Seventy-two subjects were classified in coping style on the basis of their responses to the vigilance and cognitive avoidance scales of the Mainz Coping Inventory (MCI, Krohne, 1989), and alternatively, on their trait anxiety and defensiveness scores (cf. A lagrangian formalism is systematically established for the treatment of long wavelength polar optical oscillations in quantum wires modeling the system as a macroscopic continuum. Fundamental equations for the vector displacement u and the electric potential ϕ are rigorously derived in the form of four coupled second order partial differential equations. Matching boundary conditions at the interfaces are also rigorously deduced from the fundamental equations and it is proved that no incompatibility between the mechanical and electrostatic matching boundary conditions exists. Genetically obese Zucker (fa/fa) rats were used as an experimental model to study the effects of hypolipidemic agents on peroxisome proliferation; comparison was made with Zucker lean phenotype (Fa/-) and Sprague-Dawley strain/phenotype. The pharmacokinetics of a single administration of ciprofibrate (1 or 3 mg/kg), appeared to be similar in all strains/phenotypes. After a 2-week oral administration at the same dosages, there were dosage-related increases in hepatocellular peroxisomal yield and in the hepatic enzymes' cyanide-insensitive acyl-CoA oxidase and catalase. The paper exposes the theoretical and experimental study performed with the purpose to extend the application of the Linear Absorbances Method to more complex systems, which present two spectral interferences. The curves of collinearity are developed and a theoretical study of them is carried out. The theoretical equations developed are experimentally tested and the influence of the variables involved in the Linear Absorbance Method is studied, too. It is concluded that the use of couples of collinear wavelengths of the interferents allows to obtain the concentration of a compound in the presence of two interfering substances.

Lipid monolayers at high densities are modelled as rigid rods grafted to an interface at the sites of a regular lattice. The transition between the state where the rods are uniformly tilted to a disordered state with no (average) tilt is studied by computer simulation methods. For the one-dimensional model, the molecular dynamics approach is found much less suitable to equilibrate the system rather than Monte Carlo methods. Se presentan 108 casos de Luxación Congénita de Cadera (LCC) unilateral tratados con la misma metódica terapéutica: tracción más reducción abierta o cerrada dependiendo de los hallazgos artrográficos. Tras un seguimiento medio de 7 años (Rango: 5-13), 5 (5%) tenían una coxa magna, 14 (13%) mostraban disminución de la altura epifisaria, 22 (20%) tenían una coxa magna con disminución de la altura epifisaria 10 (9%) presentaban lesión fisaria residual.
