Se presentan tres casos de fractura-luxación central de cadera tratados mediante estabilización y reducción progresiva con fijación externa. Las ventajas de este tratamiento con respecto al tratamiento conservador o quirúrgico son la estabilización inmediata y la sencillez de realización. Los resultados de fijación externa obtenidos en estos pacientes demuestran una rehabilitación y deambulación precoz e independiente. La recuperación clínica y funcional fue satisfactoria en dos casos. En otro caso, con mala reducción quirúrgica previa, el resultado fue pobre. Scintillation properties of possible cross-luminescence materials

Abstract Employing X-ray and gamma-ray excitation, we studied the scintillation properties of KMgF 3 , KYF 4 :Rb, K 2 YF 5 , KLuF 4 , RbMgF 3 , KZnF 3 and BaTm 2 F 8 crystals. The first four crystals produce intrinsic cross-luminescence (CL) with a decay time of about 1.5 ns. Intrinsic CL was not observed for the other crystals. Emission spectra, results of decay time measurements, and estimates for the absolute light yield are presented.

Die Existenz von Abnormitaten des lichtbezogenen Verhaltens bei psychisch Kranken ist teilweise aus Einzelfallen bekannt. So z. B. wurde Photophobia bei Depression [1,2] und „sun gazing” (oder Sonnenschau) in einem Fall mit psychotischer Symptomatik [3, 4] beschrieben. Die Replizitat dieser zwei Phanomene und die Entdeckung neuerer Formen von auffalligem lichtbezogenen Verhalten (z. B. das „light seeking behaviour” oder das „simple sun gazing”; [5]) waren ein Zufallsbefund im Rahmen einer Studie von Sulfatoximelatonin (SM) bei chronisch schizophrenen Patienten. Deren spontane Lichtexposition wurde zunachst nur als methodischer Schritt fur die Interpretation von SM-Werten erhoben.

Soluble CD14 monocyte antigen in suction blister fluid and serum of patients with psoriasis.

The purpose of this study was to measure soluble CD14 (sCD14) molecules in the skin and in serum of patients with psoriasis. CD14 is a newly discovered cell surface marker on monocytes that is shed after cell activation. The following procedures were used: suction blisters were raised over the abdominal skin of 9 healthy control individuals and 8 patients with psoriasis. Serum of 17 healthy controls and 17 patients with psoriasis was collected. sCD14 was determined in suction blister fluid and serum by the ELISA technique. Production of Lambda and Lambda anti-Lambda correlations in the hadronic decays of the Z (0)

An analysis of the production of the LAMBDA baryon in the hadronic decays of the Z0 is presented, based on about 993K multihadronic events collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP during 1991 and 1992. The differential cross section of the LAMBDA and the correlations between LAMBDA and LAMBDABAR produced in the same event are compared to current models, based both on string fragmentation and on cluster decay. The predictions of the string fragmentation model are found to give satisfactory agreements with the data, clearly better than those of the cluster model.

Effect of the insecticide methylparathion on filtration and ingestion rates of Brachionus calyciflorus and Daphnia magna

The freshwater rotifer Brachionus calyciflorus and the cladocera Daphnia magna were exposed to sublethal levels of methylparathion to determine the effect on filtration and ingestion rates. The experiments were performed using the unicellular algae, Nannochloris oculata in a density of 5 × 105 cell/ml. Prior to feeding experiments, preliminary acute toxicity tests were carried out to determine 24-h LC50 values for both species, these values indicated that Daphnia magna was more sensitive to methylparathion acute exposure than Brachionus calyciflorus was. Fur die Suche nach Genorten fur genetisch determinierte Erkrankungen mit Hilfe von Kopplungsanalysen werden zwei Strategien angewandt: 1. das systematische Absuchen des Genoms auf Kopplung von Genort mit Marker mit Hilfe von DNA-Markern (RFLP, Short Tandem Repeats) in regelmasigen Abstanden, 2. die Verwendung von DNA-Markern zur Kopplungsanalyse in Kandidatengenregionen, fur die ein Zusammenhang mit der Erkrankung angenommen wird, bei psychiatrischen Erkrankungen, z. B. Genorte fur Enzyme, Rezeptoren, Transporter fur Neurotransmitter.

The strong coupling constant is determined from the leptonic branching ratios, the lifetime, and the invariant mass distribution of the hadronic final state of the tau lepton, using data accumulated at LEP with the ALEPH detector. The strong coupling constant measurement, alpha(s), (m(tau)2) = 0.330 +/-0.046, evolved to the Z mass, yields alpha(s)(M(Z)2) = 0. 1 18 +/- 0.005. Abstract In order to evaluate the effects of 3,4-dichloroaniline (3,4-DCA), which were detected in a life-cycle test with guppies, on the population level, laboratory guppy populations were examined with regard to regulative parameters. Among the endpoints investigated in life-cycle tests, fecundity was shown to be a sensitive parameter. In laboratory guppy populations, however, intraspecific predation on newborn was the main regulator. Este artículo analiza la situación de la vivienda en España utilizando como fuente el Censo de Viviendas de 1991. El objetivo es conocer si existe efectivamente escasez de viviendas, tal como se oye habitualmente, o si el problema es su elevado precio, que las hace inaccesibles para una parte importante de la sociedad. Para ello, se estudia su volumen y relación con la población, su forma de utilización y su distribución geográfica, tanto a nivel provincial como diferenciando el medio urbano y rural. En conjunto hay una vivienda por cada 2,2 habitantes, es decir, un número suficiente, el verdadero problema es su desigual distribución territorial y social.

Measurement of the triple-gluon vertex from 4-JET events at LEP

From the combined data of 1990 and 1991 of the DELPHI experiment at LEP, 13057 4-jet events are obtained and used for determining the contribution of the triple-gluon vertex. The relevant variables are the generalized Nachtmann Reiter angle theta(NR)* and the opening angle of the two least energetic jets. A fit to their two-dimensional distribution yields C(A)/C(F)=2.12+/-0.35 and N(C)/N(A)=0.46+/-0.19, where C(A)/C(F) is the ratio of the coupling strength of the triple-gluon vertex to that of gluon bremsstrahlung from quarks, and N(C)/N(A), the ratio of the number of quark colours to the number of gluons. Abstract Cytokinin (CK) and low-intensity light effects in modulating nitrate reductase (NR) activity, NR protein and NR encoding mRNAs were studied in tobacco cell suspension cultures. NR activity was strikingly enhanced by CK in dark- as well as in light-grown cells whereas it was less affected by light alone. NR protein accumulation was stimulated by the hormone in the light only; then a CK light-dependent regulation of NR activity was suggested. Light enhanced the steady-state levels of hybridisable total NR mRNA and a light-inductive effect was also observed after transfer from dark to light; this effect was dependent on sucrose supply and was enhanced in CK-supplied cells. Abstract Cell suspension cultures have been obtained from Serratula tinctoria, a plant producing ecdysteroids. Sterol profiles and ecdysteroid contents have been analysed and compared in plants and cell cultures. In particular, the composition of free and esterified sterols was investigated using appropriate analytical techniques. In plants, esterified sterols were more abundant (50–70% of the total sterol) than in cell cultures (13–36%). 0721-7269; We have determined the temperature from SRS spectra of N2-N2, N2-CO2, O2-O2, and CO2-CO2 recorded in wide pressure and temperature ranges. The fitting procedure takes simultaneously into account the Dicke effect and motional narrowing. We have quantified the accuracy of the MEG and ECS-P models for rotational relaxation. The temperature extracted from each model is compared with thermocouple measurements. The influence of vibrational broadening and shifting is discussed in detail.
