We discuss the rare decay K(L) --> pi0gammagamma. Although the recently measured 2gamma-invariant-mass distribution is in quite good agreement with the lowest-order chiral perturbation theory prediction, there seems to be a discrepancy with the calculated branching ratio. We extend the previous computations to next-to-leading order, O(p6). The two dominant mechanisms at this order are emphasized: the two-pion intermediate state and vector meson exchange.

To investigate X-linked loci, EMS mutations were induced in Drosophila simulans flies. A mutant strain was discovered which in both sexes show a reduction in the biosynthesis of both 7-tricosene (7-T) the species contact pheromone and all other linear hydrocarbons. The locus controlling this effect, kete, is recessive and was localized to I, 18.5. Unlike a previously identified gene on the second chromosome of this species, Ngbo, kete does not affect the ratio of 7-T:7-pentacosene (7-P). Lambda substitution algebras

In the paper an algebraic metatheory of type-free λ-calculus is developed. Our version is based on lambda substitution algebras (λSAs), which are just SAs introduced by Feldman (for algebraizing equational logic) enriched with a countable family of unary operations of λ-abstraction and a binary operation of application. Two representation theorems, syntactical and semantic, are proved, what directly provides completeness theorems.

In this paper an abstract model of parallel timer processes (PTPs), allowing specification of temporal quantitative constraints on the behaviour of real time systems, is introduced. The parallel timer processes are defined in a dense time domain and are able to model both concurrent (with delay intervals overlapping on the time axis) and infinite behaviour. Both the strong and weak (abstracted from internal actions) bisimulation equivalence problems for PTPs are proved decidable. However, the inhibitory action of haloperidol on the acquisition and performance of escape-avoidance behavior has only been investigated in male subjects. Modeling of low-noise microwave HEMTs for CAD-oriented applications

The simultaneous determination of noise, gain and scattering parameters through a computer-driven noise figure measuring system allowed the rapid and accurate characterization of several samples of low noise HEMTs of the same family. From the measured parameters an equivalent circuit model representing the behavior of the typical device is extracted by means of a decomposition approach. Comparison between the model performance and the set of measured parameters of all devices are reported for the FHR 02FH (by Fujitsu). Chloroquine Stimulates the Mitogen-Driven Lymphocyte Proliferation in Patients with Psoriasis

Chloroquine is known to exacerbate psoriasis. Since immunological stimuli are considered to be important for the pathogenesis of psoriasis, we compared the effects of chloroquine on cell-mediated immunity in 15 healthy control individuals and 15 patients with psoriasis. We employed the spontaneous and phytohemagglutin (PHA)-induced uptake of 3H-thymidine to measure lymphocyte proliferation. Chloroquine was added to the cultures at concentrations ranging from 0.022 to 220 microM. We found that both spontaneous and PHA-driven lymphocyte proliferations were significantly lower in patients with psoriasis (p0.002). Nitric oxide mediates the inhibition by interleukin-1β of pentagastrin-stimulated rat gastric acid secretion

Bolus injection of interleukin-1 beta (2 micrograms kg-1, i.v.) inhibited acid secretion induced by intravenous infusion of pentagastrin (8 micrograms kg-1 h-1) in the continuously perfused stomach of the anaesthetized rat. Administration of interleukin-1 beta did not modify mean systemic arterial blood pressure. Pretreatment with NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME, 2-10 mg kg-1, i.v.), but not dexamethasone (5 mg kg-1, s.c. twice over 16 h), restored the acid secretory responses to pentagastrin. Fracturas patológicas en la región de la cadera

Entre 1973 y 1992, fueron tratados en nuestra institución 20 casos de fracturas patológicas a nivel de la cadera, secundarias a metástasis esqueléticas. Se realizó tratamiento quirúrgico mediante osteosíntesis o artroplastias según la localización y la extensión de la lesión. En 8 casos, la fractura fué subcapital, en 6 fué pertrocantérea y en otros 6 casos fué subtrocantérea. En el tratamiento quirúrgico, se recalca la importancia de la fijación interna inmediata con la adición de metilmetacrilato y el uso de la radioterapia postoperatoria. EN su objetivo se plantea el estudio de la morfogénesis cuaternaria en los ámbitos continental y marino, el análisis del comportamiento neotectónico y la correlación de ambos factores en el litoral meridional valenciano.
