Extensional properties of four high density polyethylenes with different molecular weights and molecular weight distributions are presented. The samples have already been well characterized in shear and non-isothermal extensional flow. The data were collected at 180 °C for elongational rates between 3 · 10−1 and 10−4s−1. Some qualitative and quantitative generalizations of the results are given.

This research project was initiated by the Committee of "Mass Media, Sport, International Understanding" of ICSPE (International Council of Sport and Physical Education). Out of the various options for a research theme the Committee gave the priority to the proposal concerning the athletes' conceptions of international sport as related to international understanding. The Committee commissioned professor Kalevi Heinilä from the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, to conduct the project.

Small-Angle Neutron Scattering from Aqueous Solutions of C12E6 and C12E8: Critical Fluctuations and Micellar Growth

Static SANS measurements have been performed on 0.028 M C12E8 in D2O over the temperature range 20–74.2 °C. Little micellar growth is observed; increases in the scattered intensities in the low angle region are due to critical concentration fluctuations of correlation length g. We have also reexamined our SANS data for C12E6 in D2O, in light of other worker’s claims that a sphere-to-cylinder transition in micellar shape is occurring in these solutions. We discuss in detail the inferences about C12E6 micellar size drawn from the results of several different experimental techniques.

Measurement of the Parity Violation in Quasi-Elastic Electroweak Electron-Scattering from 9Be

In the energy range of about 300 MeV, available at the Mainz- Linac, quasi-elastic scattering dominates the total cross section at backward scattering angles. This process can therefore be detected efficiently by a gas Cerenkov-counter with large solid angle. This is a prerequisit for experiments on parity violation due to the very small asymmetry effect being of the order of 1|10-5 at these energies [1]. The counting system built, consists of 12 elliptical mirrors, imaging the Cerenkov photons seen in target direction onto photomultipliers. Glyceroltrinitrat (GTN) fuhrt zur Erschlaffung der glatten Muskulatur von Blutgefasen. Es wurde daher fur moglich gehalten, das es den Pfortaderhochdruck bei Patienten mit Leberzirrhose vermindern konnte. Mit der kurzlich beschriebenen endoskopischen Feinnadelpunktion von Osophagusvarizen konnte der Einflus von GTN auf den intravasalen Osophagusvarizendruck (IOVD) gemessen werden. Drei Minuten nach sublingualer Gabe von 2.2 mg GTN fiel der IOVD bei 10 Patienten mit Varizen Grad III von 22.8 ± 2.0 mmHg auf 12.0 ± 0.4 mmHg (p◄0.005) und bei sechs Patienten mit Varizen Grad II von 16.3 ± 0.4 mmHg auf 10.0 ± 0.4 mmHg (p◄0.005). En un intento de relacionar la sinovitis transitoria de la cadera con la enfermedad de Perthes, los autores realizan estudios gammagráficos con Tc-99m en 57 niños con caderas en observación, analizando las imágenes obtenidas en un sistema computarizado. Los resultados sugieren que no existe relación entre ambos procesos y que en la sinovitis se produce una hiperemia del núcleo epifisario femoral superior. Se trata, pues, de un proceso «caliente», lo que confirma resultados precedentes
