6-Thiopurine complexes of organotin(IV) moieties. Synthesis and structural characterization by infrared and Mössbauer spectroscopy

Abstract The novel complexes Me3Sn(6-TP−1) and Bun2Sn(6-TP−1)2, where 6-TP−1 is the mono-anion of 6-thiopurine, have been synthesized. The sites of stannylation of 6-TP have been inferred from the known directions of electrophilic substitution reactions of 6-TP itself. The compounds have been characterized by infrared and Mossbauer spectroscopy. A solid state polymeric structure has been proposed for Me3Sn(6-TP−1), where planar SnC3 skeletons are bridged by 6-TP−1 (thione tautomer) axially bound to Sn through N(3) and N(1) atoms. For Bun2Sn(6-TP−1)2, a molecular structure has been advanced, with the ‘aromatic’ ligand anions chelating Sn by S-N(7) atoms.

The food and parasites of fish in some deep basins of northern L. Päijänne

The composition of the fish stock, food and ‘macroparasites’ were studied in eleven basins (22–100 m) of Lake Jyvasjarvi and North Paijanne in August–September 1976. The fishing was done by means of a series of nets (meshes 15, 21 and 35 mm) laid on the bottom overnight. No fish were found in the two northernmost basins owing to bad oxygen conditions caused by waste waters. Smelt and burbot were the most abundant fish in the catches in other basins but the vendace was rare. Relict crustaceans and some ‘deep water’ copepods (e.g. Heterocope borealis) played an important role in the food of fish in all basins.

The process of incorporation of zinc into a copper cathode has been experimentally studied in a molten salt system at 381±2° C and at various current densities. The process is shown to be kinetically controlled by the diffusion of Zn into the solid matrix. A galvanostatic pulse titration technique has been used to determine the chemical diffusion coefficient at various alloy compositions, and an exponential relationship has been found between the diffusivity and the third power of the zinc concentration in the alloy. K.N. Majumdar has shown that for a 2-(v, k, @l) design D there are three numbers @a, @t, and @S such that each intersection number of D is not greater than @S and not less than max{@a, @t}. In this paper we investigate designs having one of these 'extremal' intersection numbers. Quasisymmetric designs with at least one extremal intersection number are characterized. Furthermore, we show that a smooth design D having the intersection number @S or @a>0 is isomorphic to the system of points and hyperplanes of a finite projective space. Using this theorem, we can characterize all smooth strongly resolvable designs.

Embedded-atom calculations of Auger and x-ray photoemission shifts for metallic elements

Change in self-consistent-field energy density-functional calculations are reported for Auger and core-level binding-energy shifts in sp-bonded metals. The basic model, atom in jellium vacancy, gives good agreement with experiment, especially in the Auger case. The chemical and relaxation contributions to the shifts are discussed, and the extra-atomic response is analyzed in detail, both in position and energy space. SUMMARYCounting spermatocyte bivalents, we have determined the haploid number n = 16 for Aplysia depilans and A. punctata, and n = 17 for A. limacina. We have confirmed n = 17 for Bursatella leachii. Male diakinetic bivalents are probably chiasmatic in all the species examined. The orders Nudibranchia and Notaspidea, possessing haploid values of 13 and 12 chromosomes respectively, seem to be more evolved than the other orders of the sub-class Opisthobranchia.

Treatment of acute rejection of cadaveric renal allografts with rabbit antithymocyte globulin.

In a prospective randomized single-blind trial, we compared the effectiveness of rabbit antithymocyte globulin (RATG) in the treatment of acute renal graft rejection with the results of treatment by high oral doses of prednisone. Twenty recipients of cadaveric kidneys were included in each group. In the RATG group, the prednisone dose was not increased and a dose-by-rosette protocol was used to keep T cell levels between 50 and 150/mm3. In this group 15 of the 20 patients responded to the treatment. One of these patients lost her kidney afterward because of a technical failure. A new investigation of the mercury antimony mineral shakhovite yielded space groupIm witha=4.871(1),b=15.098(3),c=5,433(1) A and β=98.86(2)°. The determination of the crystal structure gave a cell content of Hg8Sb2O12. Since the presence of Hg2-groups indicates that shakhovite is a pure Hg(1) compound and the infrared spectrum shows an absorption band at 3440 cm−1 which is due to the OH-stretching frequency, it is assumed that there are six oxygen atoms and six OH-groups in the unit cell. Thus the chemical formula of shakhovite reads Hg4Sb(OH)3O3 with two formula units per unit cell. Abstract Levels of the N = 81 nucleus 145Gd have been investigated by in-beam γ-ray and conversion electron spectroscopy with the 144Sm(3He, 2n) reaction. Fourteen new low- and medium-spin states between 1.0 and 2.4 MeV excitation, the known yrast levels up to spin 21 2 + , five other high-spin non-yrast states and a new 20.4 ns 13 2 isomer at 2200.2 keV in 145Gd have been observed. The isomer decays via a fast 927.3 keV E3 transition with B(E3) = 48 ± 7 W.u. Another weaker decay branch is a mixed, strongly hindered E1 + M2 + E3 transition to the v h −1 11 2 state. Abstract The synthesis of two types of tin(II) complex SnCl2·L·CH3OH (L = adenosine, cytidine and inosine) and SnCl2·L2·CH3OH (L = adenine and cytosine) are described. The complexes are characterised by their infrared and 119Sn Mossbauer data. The Mossbauer shift data suggest that the bonds between tin(II) chloride and the donor atoms of the ligands are relatively weak.
