Special subtypes of viruses belonging to different virus families are known to be able to induce insulin-deficient diabetes or pathological glucose tolerance in experimental animals (Table 1). The development of the diabetogenic effect of viruses is dependent on the species (Table 1) and, within one species, dependent on age and sex (Friedman et al., 1972), particularly on the genetic factors of the animals determining susceptibility or resistance to diabetes (Craighead and Higgins, 1974; Yoon and Notkins, 1976).

Clinical practice and pharmacological data suggest a possible antidepressive action of sulpiride given in low dosages. To further explore the therapeutic efficacy of sulpiride 11 patients with an endogenous type of depression were studied during treatment with an oral daily dose of 150 mg sulpiride. The present data allows the conclusion that (A) low dosed sulpiride seems to act as an antidepressant in severe and milder forms of depression, (B) a clinical progress is seen earlier than is common during treatment with tricyclics and (C) a significant increase of drive is observable. Este artículo intenta estudiar los balnearios de la provincia de Valencia como una forma de ocio. Destaca el rápido declinar que han sufrido estos establecimientos en los últimos años; esto ha ocasionado el cierre de la mayoría de ellos. Esta situación contrasta con la de otros países europeos donde los balnearios gozan de gran popularidad. Las causas de este declinar hay que buscarlas en el escaso interés que muestra la medicina española actual por este tipo de terapia y en la falta de protección oficial.

To this aim, we first analyse the relations between the groups G⊗U(1) and \(\tilde G\)c , where G is a Lie group of trivial H o 2 (G,U(1)) cohomology and \(\tilde G\)c is a central extension of Gc (obtained from G by contraction) by U(1).

Mass spectra of halogenated esters 5—Chloromethyl esters of aliphatic C2C12n-carboxylic acids and their monochlorinated derivatives

A study has been made of the mass spectral fragmentation upon electron impact of aliphatic C2C12 chloromethyl esters and all their 66 monochlorinated derivatives. The fragmentation pathways of the parent chloromethyl esters were elucidated with the aid of the 1st FFR metastable ions. A McLafferty rearrangement gives the base peak in the C6C11 parent esters and in almost all the 4-chloro and ω-chloro isomers. The subsequent loss of HCl gives a very characteristic peak of the chloromethyl esters and their (3-ω)-chloro derivatives at m/z 72, [C3H4O2]+. Extended phonon projection model for nuclear collective motion

The subject of this work is the formulation and application of a geometrical collective model with comparison to experiment and with other models dealing with low energy nuclear structure. This model, called the EPM(= Extended Phonon-Projection Model) avoids the use of an extensive diagonalization basis in the deformednucleus region by cleverly choosing a three dimensional model space with capability of producing the gross features encountered in moving from spherical vibrator nuclei to almost rigid rotors of deformed shapes. Critical phenomena originating magmatic rocks in western Sicily.

The behaviour of a model magma in the vicinity of a critical region is in agreement with results of studies of structures in the melt in basaltic rocks from Sicily. The behaviour of ionic-non ionic fluid mixtures simulating a magma has been analysed in the light of results obtained recently with simple statistical mechanical approximations. It is suggested that the Sicilian magma is to be considered as an extremely rare natural example of two immiscible liquids having almost consolute composition.

Comparative Ultrastructure of Wild-Type and Tumorous Cells of Drosophila

In Drosophila genetic factors cause malignant and benign neoplasms (Gateff, 1978a,b,c). In addition, compactly growing lethal tumors have been obtained from eye-antennal imaginal discs during serial subculture in the abdomens of female flies (Gateff, 1978a,b). The following tumor types have been found: (1) lethal-benign imaginal disc neoplasms, (2) malignant neuroblastomas, (3) malignant blood cell neoplasms, and (4) a benign gonial cell neoplasm. The fine structure of some of the above tumors has been studied and compared to the fine structure of corresponding wild-type cells. These will be discussed below.
