ESTIMATION OF INJECTION PRESSURE DURING MOLD FILLING.

1982

Dimensionless diagrams for estimating the bulk temperature of the flow front and injection pressure in the limit of small viscous generation are obtained. Also, a criterion for neglecting viscous generation is identified, The diagrams, based on the Lord and Williams model, refer to rectangular geometry and amorphous materials. A satisfactory comparison is obtained with literature data taken on polystyrene. A reasonable estimate of polyethylene injection pressure was obtained by roughly accounting for latent heat of crystallization through modified thermal diffusivity.

l-Glutamate receptor binding in bovine retina

1982

Using a centrifugation technique saturable specific [ 3 H]glutamate binding in bovine retina could be demonstrated. Scatchard analysis revealed only one population of binding sites with a dissociation constant of about 3 μ m and a maximal number of binding sites of about 0·2 pmol/mg retinal protein. Several glutamic acid analogues inhibit specific [ 3 H]glutamate binding in bovine retina with half-maximal inhibitory concentrations similar to those reported in other areas of the CNS. Specific [ 3 H]glutamate binding and sodium dependent synaptosomal uptake of glutamate are largely concentrated in the P2 fraction of bovine retina homogenates consisting of conventionally sized synaptosomes. Th…

Organozin- und organobleiderivate von N-(2,4-dinitrophenyl)glycin

1982

Abstract Organotin and organolead derivatives of N -(2,4-dinitrophenyl)glycine (HDNG), R 3 MDNG (M = Sn, Pb; R = CH 3 , C 6 H 5 ) and (C 6 H 5 ) 2 Pb(DNG) 2 , have been prepared from R 3 MOH or [(C 6 H 5 ) 2 PbO] n and HDNG, respectively. (CH 3 ) 3 PbDNG was also obtained from (CH 3 ) 3 PbBr and TlDNG. According to spectroscopic data R 3 M groups in R 3 MDNG are essentially planar and are bridged by bidentate carboxylate groups of DNG. NH does not coordinate to M. Penta-coordination is also indicated by Mossbauer data of R 3 SnDNG. Also for (C 6 H 5 ) 2 Pb(DNG) 2 a chain structure but with hexacoordination of Pb is proposed. The compounds are monomeric in solution.

EMG activity of pigeon oesophagus in vivo.

1982

At rest, the pigeon cervical oesophagus, which is entirely smooth muscle, shows electric activity. This activity consists of bursts of spikes with frequency increasing in the oral-aboral direction. The bursts are un-phase locked, and there are no slow waves (E.C.A.). The surgical transection of the oesophageal muscular wall does not affect the electric activity even in a disconnected segment. After asphyxia electric activity persists, whereas the aboral gradient of frequency disappears. Therefore, the electric activity is thought to be myogenic in origin, and the frequency gradient nervous in origin. Atropine and neostigmine administration suggests that the cholinergic system modulates the …

Abstract In arylsulfonyl halides, the half-wave potentials of the corresponding chlorides and fluorides differ by more than 1000 mV, the fluoride being more negative; the influence of para-substituents is small for the chlorides, large for the fluorides. In agreement with the half-wave potentials, arylsulfonyl chlorides are considerably more reactive chemically than the corresponding fluorides. The O-selectivity found for P(O)F compounds is not observed in arylsulfonyl fluorides. Studies of competitive ester formation using primary and secondary alcohols and various arylsulfonyl chlorides yielded no clear analogy to the half-wave potentials. The primary alcohol is always sulfonated in prefe…

Preparation and reactivity of 1,2-bis(imino)ethylpalladium(II) complexes

1982

Abstract The 1,2-bis(imino)ethylpalladium complex, t r a n s − [ P d C I { C ( = N R ) ︹ C H = N R } ( P P h 3 ) 2 ] (R =p-C6H4OMe, DABI) can be prepared by treatment of [Pd(PPh3)4] with two equivalents of CNC6H4OMe-p followed by slow addition of HCl at −70° C. The σ-bonded 1,2-bis(imino) group can be easily monoprotonated and undergoes acid hydrolysis to give the α-aldehydoimidoyl derivative t r a n s − [ P d C I { C ( = N R ) ︹ C H = O } ( P P h 3 ) 2 ] . Condensation of the aldehydic carbonyl group with methylamine yields the product t r a n s − [ P d C I { C ( = N C 6 H 4 O M e − p ) ︹ C H = N M e } ( P P h 3 ) 2 ] , DABII, with different substituents on the N-imino atoms. Abstract Benzene-disulfonylchlorides were converted to the corresponding dialkyl-and diphenylesters, N-alkyl-and N-aryl disulfonamides. The half-wave-potentials E1/2 1 and E1/2 2 were measured and the products obtained on potentiostatic fission at E1/2 1 were isolated and characterized. The electroreduction of benzene-1,4-disulfonic acid-diphenylester in methanol yields phenol in a quantity approximately corresponding to the current passed, but no corresponding quantity of sulfinic acid. In dry acetonitrile, benzene-1,4-disulfonic acid diesters and diamides undergo potentiostatic fission (at E1/2 1) in good chemical and current yields, giving the corresponding monosulfonate-sulfinic acid or…

Study on maternal, fetal and amniotic prolactin in gestational diabetic women, at term.

1982

In order to determine whether prolactin secretion was affected in diabetic pregnancy, maternal, fetal and amniotic fluid prolactin (PRL) concentrations were measured in gestational non treated diabetic women at parturition. Amniotic fluid PRL levels, though higher than those in maternal and fetal serum, were significantly lower than those of the controls (p less than 0.005); no case of respiratory distress syndrome or congenital malformation was found at birth.

EFFECTS OF 4-AMINOPYRIDINE ON ACETYLCHOLINE OUTPUT FROM THE CEREBRAL CORTEX OF THE RAT in vivo

1982

Abstract 1 The effects of 4-aminopyridine (4AP) on the output of acetylcholine (ACh) from the cerebral cortex were investigated in unanaesthetized freely moving rats and in anaesthetized rats by means of the `cup technique'. ACh was determined by bioassay on the dorsal muscle of the leech. 2 In unanaesthetized rats intraperitoneal injection of 4AP (3 mg/kg) had no effect on the cortical output of ACh. 3 After injection of morphine (10 mg/kg s.c.), which depressed the spontaneous output of ACh, 4AP increased the cortical output to a level significantly higher than that determined before morphine injection. 4 In rats anaesthetized with either urethane or pentobarbitone, drugs known to decreas…

A version of DSC technique is proposed which ensures good accuracy in comparing the melting behaviour of two apparently similar samples. The information is obtained in the form of comparative thermograms recorded during simulataneous melting of both samples. The method is applied to observe the influence of cooling conditions and annealing on melting behaviour of low-density polyethylene.

N-Ethylaziridine (1) was polymerized in water with HCl as initiator and copolymerized with N-(2-hydroxyethyl)aziridine (2). Rapid propagation and termination reactions were observed. The maximum yield increases with the initiator concentration, whereas the molecular weight decreases. This is due to the difference in basicity between the tertiary N-atoms of the two monomers and the tertiary and the terminal secondary N-atoms of the polymers, which causes tranfer and termination reactions. Macrocycles with a side chain on a quaternary N-atom are formed. During the copolymerization, the more basic 1 is preferentially incorporated into the copolymer chain. The copolymerization parameters can be…

p-Cresol and eight oligo[(hydroxyphenylene)methylene] compounds 1b–e and 4a–d could be esterified with good yields with acryloyl chloride or propionyl chloride, respectively, in the presence of triethylamine. The simple and multiple acrylates and propionates were characterized by determination of their molar masses, elemental analyses, hydrogenation of the CC double bonds in the acrylate groups, and by their IR- and UV-spectra. No steric hindrance could be ascertained. Acrylates with more than three phenolic units in their molecules were found to have a range of melting, whereas all the propionates possess sharp melting points. This can be explained by polymerization of the acrylates which …

Morphometrische Untersuchungen an Darminterponaten nach totaler Gastrektomie

1982

Discussed here are several aspects of a simple model for dealing with nonresponse. The model is, in a sense, a sequential one and is developed from a Bayesian decision theory point of view. Within this framework we examine how formalization and combination of one's opinions, and past experience concerning the proportion of nonrespondents, the differences and relations between respondents and nonrespondents, the cost of obtaining information from nonrespondents, etc. We examine the decisions concerning the selection of sampling size m and n, both in the nonrespondent population and in the overall population

Enhancement of immunohistochemical staining

1982

The present paper describes two simple procedures which enhance immunohistochemical staining. One is to cover the sections with a plastic film to keep the serum uniformly distributed and minimize its evaporation. Secondly, rocking of the slides has been introduced, causing the serum to flow back and forth under the plastic film. Using this system, it has been possible to test for the effect of mixing on an immunohistochemical reaction (the demonstration of calcitonin in thyroid C cells). It has been found that mixing definitely enhances the reaction during the first 8 h. No effect of serum volume was observed.

Differential specificity of substrate-attached lectins stimulating spreading of GH3-cells under serum-free, hormone-supplemented culture conditions

1982

Most mammalian cells are capable of growth in culture only when they are supplied with an appropriate substrate to which they can adhere and spread. To prepare suitable substrates different lectins were attached onto polystyrene tissue-culture dishes after coating with polylysine. GH3-cells (a pituitary-tumor-cell line) were seeded into the culture dishes containing serum-free, hormone-supplemented medium. When succinylated Concanavalin A (s-Con A), which binds specifically to mannose residues, is attached to the surface an extraordinary spreading of GH3-cells is induced within 15 to 20 min after seeding. Other lectins with a different sugar-binding specificity are less effective in inducin…

Isosorbide dinitrate: pharmacokinetics after intravenous administration.

1982

Isosorbide dinitrate (ISDN) is an important organic nitrate found therapeutically useful in its sublingual and oral forms in various cardiovascular diseases such as angina pectoris (1) and congestive heart failure (2). Recently Distante et al. (3) showed that an intravenous infusion of this drug, at 0.021–0.083 mg/min is also effective in managing unstable angina. The availability of an intravenous dosage form of ISDN not only affords the opportunity to characterize the pharmacokinetics of this drug after this particular mode of therapy, but also gives the possibility of assessing the bio-availability of this drug after other (e.g., oral) routes of administration in patients. This latter po…

The effects of metoclopramide on acetylcholine release and on smooth muscle response in the isolated guinea-pig ileum

1982

The effects of metoclopramide on smooth muscle contraction and on release of acetylcholine were studied in the guinea-pig myenteric plexus longitudinal muscle preparation. Acetylcholine was determined either as endogenous acetylcholine, or as labelled transmitter from strips preloaded with 3H-choline. Metoclopramide caused an increase in resting tension of longitudinal muscle as well as an increase in resting output of either endogenous or labelled acetylcholine. Tetrodotoxin abolished the metoclopramide-evoked increase in transmitter release. The increase in smooth muscle tension was clearly related to the increase in resting output. The effects of metoclopramide on both longitudinal muscl…
