Abstract Two new distinct products, SnCl 2 ·2(C 4 H 8 N 2 O 3 ) and ClSn(C 4 H 7 N 2 O 3 ) can be obtained from the SnCl 2 : C 4 H 8 N 2 O 3 system. The IR, 119 Sn Mossbauer and thermal analytical data for the products are reported and discussed in terms of the bonding in these compounds.

Of all physico-chemical quantities characterizing the behavior of liquids, the viscosity coefficient η is normally most sensitive to pressure. Early measurements of η(p) date back almost 100 years [1] but they were carried out with very different objectives [2]. In recent years a new research method has been developed in solid state physics which is based on the asymmetry of muon decay1. A positive muon at rest decays after a mean lifetime of 2.2 μsec into a positron and two neutrinos, the positron being emitted preferentially in the direction of the muon spin. Hence if spin polarized muons are implanted in a solid, the time evolution of the muon spin polarization can be determined by a measurement of the angular distribution of the positrons. In a pond receiving warmed cooling waters from a thermal power plant, the physical and chemical properties of the water, phytoplankton, periphyton and zooplankton were monitored on a weekly sampling schedule. In winter the phytoplankton growth was limited by poor light conditions. In mid-February a rapid phytoplankton growth started, simultaneously with increasing light energy, high nutrient concentrations and small herbivorous zooplankton populations. The increase of phytoplankton biomass was stopped by lack of free nutrients and silica at the end of March. After a long period of neglect (Goodwin et al. 1955), percutaneous nephropyelostomy (PNS) has gained general acceptance and replaced operative nephrostomy. In addition, the percutaneous approach has led to a number of new diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The objective of this review is not to give a complete and detailed survey of PNS but rather to report on our technique and results with fine needle nephrostomy and various endo-urological manipulations.

The electrochemical oxidation of maleic acid on tungsten anodes has been investigated. Glyoxal and carbon dioxide were the main products together with tartaric acid and acetaldehyde. Glyoxal is also obtained as the main product from the oxidation ofd-tartaric acid. Under the same conditions succinic acid is completely oxidized to carbon dioxide and water. The anodic dissolution of tungsten and the oxidation of water to oxygen become predominant in the final stages of the electrolyses.

Preparation, purification and characterization of a phosphoglycolate phosphatase (PGP) isoenzyme from human erythrocytes was achieved by DEAE-Sepharose CL-6B chromatography and isoelectric focusing using carrier ampholytes, pH 4-6. 2. The isoenzyme has an isoelectric point of 5.00 +/- 0.05 and could be purified 33,000 fold to a specific activity of 32.7 U/mg of protein. It represents the PGP phenotype 1 consisting of a single isoenzyme. 3. The enzyme is composed of two subunits (mol. wt 35,000) which are identical and not connected by SS-bridges. 4.
