Escoliosis causada por osteoblastoma benigno de la columna vertebral lumbar

Presentación clínica de un caso de Osteoblastoma Benigno, en un paciente de 15 años, localizado en el pedículo derecho de L3, acompañado de escoliosis con la concavidad de la curva hacia el lado de la lesión y un intervalo de tiempo entre el inicio de los síntomas y el diagnóstico de tres meses. Se realiza una resección en bloque, mediante hemilaminectomía derecha, y liberación de las raíces L2 y L3, con un resultado espectacular del cuadro clínico.

Mit 19 Jahren wurde die iranisch-deutsche Patientin im Oktober 1984 wegen einer Coombs-positiven hamolytischen Anamie behandelt. IgG-typische, nichtspezifische Antikorper wurden nachgewiesen. Zuvor war wegen eines grippalen Infektes ein Kombinationsmedikament verordnet worden, das Brompheniramin, Kalziumascorbat, Prophyphenazon, Salizylamid, Chini-din-Hydrochlorid und Coffein (Ilvico®) enthielt. Spezifische Antikorper gegen diese Substanzen waren nicht gesucht worden. Der Coombs-Test blieb 5 Monate positiv. Eine Corticoid-Therapie wurde mit Erfolg klinisch begonnen, von der Patientin wahrscheinlich jedoch nicht konsequent fortgesetzt. Antinukleare Antikorper waren nicht nachweisbar.

Changes of Hemodynamic Parameters, Pulmonary Gas Exchange, and Extravascular Lung Water During Esophageal Cancer Surgery

Esophagectomy is often connected to postoperative pulmonary complications with a high mortality rate [1, 3,4]. From 1980 to 1985 we treated 19 patients after esophagectomy in our intensive care unit. Nine patients (47%) died of pulmonary complications. From the literature [3] and from our own observations we came to the conclusion that the first pulmonary changes start during the operative procedure.

In this study we have examined the reception of Mendelism in France from 1900 to 1940, and the place of some of the extra-Mendelian traditions of research that contributed to the development of genetics in France after World War II. Our major findings are: (1) Mendelism was widely disseminated in France and thoroughly understood by many French biologists from 1900 on. With the notable exception of Lucien Cuenot, however, there were few fundamental contributions to the Mendelian tradition, and virtually none from about 1915 to the midthirties. New adsorbents for thymidylate synthase affinity chromatography

New affinity adsorbents, intended for chromatography of thymidylate synthase (EC 2.1.1.45) from different sources, consisting of p-[N-[(2-amino-4-hydroxy-6-quinazolinyl)-methyl]-N-2-propynylamino]benzoyl-γ-[α-(3-carboxypropylamino)]glutamyl-glutamyl immobilized either on macroporous copolymer of acrylonitrile and n-butyl acrylate or on macroporous polymer of acrylonitrile itself, both crosslinked with divinylbenzene and having aminoethyl groups, were obtained. Both adsorbents were found to be effective in dUMP-dependent binding of thymidylate synthase from regenerating rat liver.

A Theory of electrical circuits with resistively coupled distributed structures : Delay time predicting

This paper deals with qualitative properties ( existence, uniqueness, and especially, stability) and numerical solution of a circuit consisting of a resistive multiport with r-c-g "exactly modeled" distributed elements connected to its terminals. This kind of results are useful, for instance, when we study the effect of interconnections on the speed of transient process from an integrated structure. A formula to evaluate the delay time as a global parameter of the circuit is given and verified by numerical calculus. peerReviewed

Abstract Ab initio LCAO-MO-SCF calculations on the model compounds C 5 H 4 N-2-C(R 1 )=NH [R 1 = H ( 2c ) and R 1 = trans -PdCl(PH 3 ) 2 ( 4c )] indicate that the E - trans conformation is favored over the E - cis one by 16.9 kJ mol −1 for 2c and by 25.0 kJ mol −1 for 4c . One of the factors which stabilizes the E-trans arrangement for 4c is a weak bonding interaction between the palladium center and the pyridine nitrogen. On going from 2c to 4c a slight charge enrichment on the pyridine carbons and a more pronounced one on the nitrogen atoms is computed, whereas the charge density of the imino carbon atom is decreased. This study of 500 male and female skulls proves: significant differences of correlation coefficients (p less than or equal to 0.01) occur between the two sexes. The combined variables are: 1. bizygomatic breadth (45)/skull base length (5) 2. bizygomatic breadth (45)/foramen magnum length (7) 3. bizygomatic breadth (45)/foramen magnum breadth (16) 4. bizygomatic breadth (45)/basion-bregma height (17) 5. foramen magnum breadth (16)/skull base length (5) Female skulls have generally higher correlation coefficients values than males which is interpreted as an indication of homogeneous growth.

The ground-state hyperfine splitting of radioactive Ba+ isotopes of mass 133 and 131, confined in a r.f. quadrupole trap, has been measured by laser-microwave double resonances. The results are Δν(133) = 9 925 453 554.59(10) Hz and Δν(131) = 9 107 913 698.97 (50) Hz. The experiment, including measurements of systematic shifts, was performed on quantities of about 1012 isotopes, produced by nuclear reactions and collected at the ISOLDE facility at CERN. The precision is comparable to equivalent measurements on stable isotopes and demonstrates the high-sensitivity of the stored-ion technique. Two pyridinedicarboxylates, predicted [Hanauske-Abel (1983) M.D.-Ph.D. Thesis, Philipps Universität Marburg] and later found to be potent reversible inhibitors of purified prolyl 4-hydroxylase [Majaama, Hanauske-Abel, Günzler & Kivirikko (1984) Eur. J. Biochem. 138, 239-245] were investigated with respect to their effect on hydroxyprolyl biosynthesis in the fibroblast/collagen and the macrophage/Clq systems, and the effect was compared with that of the iron chelator 2,2′-dipyridyl, the compound usually employed to inhibit cellular hydroxyprolyl formation. Structure and function of ferredoxin-NADP+-oxidoreductase

The redox-enzyme ferredoxin-NADP-oxidoreductase has been shown to be activated by light and inactivated in the dark. This review will summarize recent data concerning the biochemical characterization of the enzyme compared to its in-vivo activation. Further-more the mechanism of this activation process is discussed as a conformational change caused by the light-driven proton gradient.

Capillary column gas chromatographic identification of sugars in honey as trimethylsilyl derivatives.

A method for identifying carbohydrates (mono-, di- and trisaccharides) in honey is presented. It is based on the separate preparation of both trimethylsilyl ethers and oxime trimethylsilyl ethers of the sugars followed by their gas chromatographic separation on a fused-silica capillary column coated with OV-101 using temperature programming. From the two chromatograms, the number of peaks given by each derivatized sugar, their relative retention times and peak-area ratios are used for identification. The identities of two unidentified trisaccharide peaks are considered. Quantitative applications to honey sugar analysis are discussed.
