Die endoskopische Durchtrennung der Perforansvenen

Bei der Entstehung chronisch venoser Insuffizienzen sind Perforansvenen bedeutsam. Die endoskopische Technik nach G. Hauer erlaubt eine Durchtrennung insuffizienter Perforansvenen unter direkter Sicht, bei geringem Operationstrauma. An der Chirurgischen Klinik Mainz wurden 22 Patienten (20 Patienten in Kombination mit Varizenexhairese) endoskopisch operiert. Erste postoperative Nachuntersuchungsergebnisse zeigen befriedigende Ergebnisse bei 16 Patienten. Chronisch venose Insuffizienzen wurden mit 2 Ausnahmen verbessert oder vollig abgeheilt.

Indikation und Verfahrenswahl in der chirurgischen Therapie des toxischen Megacolons

Von 1964 bis 4/1988 wurden an der chirurgischen Klinik Mainz 20 Patienten wegen eines toxischen Megacolons operiert. 10mal wurde colektomiert und ein terminales Ileostoma angelegt (4 P. verstarben), 2 Patienten wurden konservativ behandelt, bei einem wurde eine Proktocolektomie durchgefuhrt (P. verstarb), und bei 7 Patienten erfolgte die Dekompressionsoperation nach Turnbull (1 P. verstarb). In schweren Fallen des toxischen Megacolons ohne Komplikationen (Peritonitis, Blutung, Perforation) bevorzugten wir die Turnbullsche Operation. Although conduction anesthesia has a high rate of success and is relatively easy to perform, subarachnoid or epidural procedures may not be indicated for certain groups of patients, including the elderly, debilitated, arthritic, obese, or critically ill. Osteotomías del iliaco en el niño : según técnicas de Salter y Chiari

The authors describe their experience with the SALTER'S and CHIARI'S techniques. 27 osteotomies are reported, with studies about theirs indications (congenital dislocation of the hip, Perthe's Disease), age of realitation roentgenographic signs (C. E. angle of Wiberg, acetabular angle). They also put through proximal femoral varus derotational osteotomy at the same time with the SALTER'S technique. They show sorne details of the technique and conclusions after their clinical experience are reviewed.

Three of four children in a family have homozygous (less than 1% of normal) deficiency of factor H of the complement system and both parents, who are first cousins, are heterozygous for the same defect. The father and two of the H-deficient siblings also have a partial C2 deficiency. One of the children with combined deficiencies is affected by systemic lupus erythematosus with nephritis. During recent experiments at the IGISOL-facility several new neutron rich nuclides have been discovered, including the first direct observations of the beta decays of 111Tc, 112Ru, 113Ru, 114Ru, 113Rh, 115Rh, 116Rh and 118Pd. The role of the νg7/2 → πg9/2 transformation in the beta decays of the odd-odd 110–116Rh and the even-even 114–118Pd isotopes is shown to be dominant. The experimental results are compared with shell model calculations including deformation and pairing.

Purified ATP synthase (F0F1) from Rhodospirillum rubrum was reconstituted into asolectine liposomes which were then adsorbed to a planar lipid bilayer. After the addition of an inactive photolabile ATP derivative (caged ATP), ATP was released after illumination with u.v.-light, which led to a transient current in the system. We studied the ostracod fauna from a Late Miocene-Early Pliocene interval 600 m thick, in Ashtart 1, an offshore well in the Gulf of Gabes, southeastern Tunisia. Most of the 131 samples analyzed contained rich and much diversified populations of marine ostracods. In fact, 212 species have been found, belonging to 70 genera. Among them, eight genera, 122 species and subspecies, considered as new, will be described elsewhere. Karyotype analysis and marker chromosomes of renal cell carcinoma.

Karyotyping was performed in 46 human renal cell carcinomas of various histological grades. Controls included chromosome analysis of normal renal parenchymal cells from the same patients. Various numerical chromosome aberrations were found as well as marker chromosomes. They are specific of the individual tumor but no single marker was identified occurring in all tumors tested. Hippocampal Sharp Waves: A Physiological Correlate of LTP?

The irregularly occurring large amplitude hippocampal sharp waves (SPWs) are correlated with synchronous population bursts of CA1-CA3 and subicular pyramidal cells, dentate granule cells and interneurons in all hippocampal fields. We suggest that the SPW-associated neuronal burst is the best candidate for a physiological basis of long-term potentiation (LTP).

First Capture of Antiprotons in an Ion Trap: Progress Toward a Precision Mass Measurement and Antihydrogen

Antiprotons from the Low Energy Antiproton Ring of CERN are slowed from 21 MeV to below 3 keV by being passed through 3 mm of material, mostly Be. While still in flight, the kilo-electron volt antiprotons are captured in a Penning trap created by the sudden application of a 3-kV potential. Antiprotons are held for 100 s and more. Prospects are now excellent for much longer trapping times under better vacuum conditions. This demonstrates the feasibility of a greatly improved measurement of the inertial mass of the antiproton and opens the way to other intriguing experiments. The possibility of producing antihydrogen by merging cold, trapped plasmas of positrons and antiprotons is discussed.
