Intense beams of mass-separated, neutron-deficient indium, tin, thallium and lead isotopes

A discharge ion source of the FEBIAD-type that delivers intense beams of neutron-deficient isotopes of indium, tin, thallium and lead produced in heavy-ion-induced fusion reactions is described. After mass separation the isotopically pure beams with intensities of up to 3 × 107 ions/s were available for gamma and laser spectroscopy. This corresponds to an overall separation efficiency of about 30%.

Indefinitely growing self-avoiding walk.

We introduce a new random walk with the property that it is strictly self-avoiding and grows forever. It belongs to a different universality class from the usual self-avoiding walk. By definition the critical exponent $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ is equal to 1. To calculate the exponent $\ensuremath{\nu}$ of the mean square end-to-end distance we have performed exact enumerations on the square lattice up to 22 steps. This gives the value $\ensuremath{\nu}=0.57\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.01$.

Die drei SS-Brucken im Insulin konnen galvanostatisch unter Bildung der SH-A-Kette und der SH-B-Kette (Produktgemisch I) aufgespalten werden. Potentiostatisch gelingt bei -1.3 V (vs. SCE) die selektive Offnung der zwei interchenaren Disulfidbrucken (Produktgemisch II). Die vier SH-Gruppen im Produktgemisch II werden mit dem Vinylsulfon 1 blockiert (Produktgemisch III). α-Chymotrypsin wird durch die fluoreszierenden Phosphonoylfluoride 1 und 3 inhibiert. Die fluoreszenzmarkierten α-Chymotrypsine 5 und 6 wurden gelelektrophoretisch aufgetrennt. Die Fluoreszenz von 1 und 3 sowie 5 und 6 ist komplementar losungsmittelabhangig. Mit 3 fluoreszenzmarkiertes α-Chymotrypsin ergibt bei der sauren Hydrolyse den fluoreszierenden Serinester 7. Durch reduktive Offnung der SS-Brucken im fluoreszenzmarkierten 6 wird bewiesen, das 1 mit einem Serin der C-Kette reagiert hat. Das gleiche Ergebnis erhalt man, wenn man in 6 die durch Reduktion freigesetzten SH-Gruppen zunachst mit Vinylsulfonen blockiert und dann auftrennt. Transportation of thermalized primary recoil ions from nuclear reactions by helium flow has been investigated as a means of injecting short-lived radioactive nuclides into an on-line isotope separator. Several short-lived radioactive isotopes of highly nonvolatile elements such as B, Sc, Nb, and W have been separated. The efficiency for heavy nuclides with half-lives above 1 ms is between 1 and 10%. The shortest-lived activity identified in an on-line separation is the 182-\ensuremath{\mu}s isomeric state in $^{207}\mathrm{Bi}$.

Konkurrenzversuche und kinetisch verfolgte Umsetzungen geben Aufschlus uber die Geschwindigkeit der Addition von primaren, sekundaren und tertiaren Thiolen an die (Aryl)- bzw. (Alkyl)-(vinyl)sulfone 1 und 4 – 7. Gezielte und reversible Fluoreszenzmarkierung von SH-Lysozym mit Vinylsulfonen

Am Beispiel von SH-Lysozym wird gezeigt, wie man SH-Gruppen reversibel mit den Vinylsulfonen 1–4 nach Gl. (a) selektiv blockieren und nach Gl. (b) selektiv deblockieren kann. Das wasserlosliche Vinylsulfon 2 macht das blockierte SH-Lysozym wasserloslich. Durch Einwirkung von NaOH-Losung wird nach Gl. (b) das wasserunlosliche SH-Lysozym regeneriert. Verbindungen vom Typ R1R2P(O)X [X = F, OC6H4NO2-(4)] sind OH-selektiv und reagieren mit der Serinhydroxygruppe im aktiven Zentrum von Esterasen (α-Chymotrypsin, Trypsin, Butyrylcholinesterase, Acetylcholinesterase und Subtilisin) unter Bildung des entsprechenden inaktiven Phosphorylesters [R1R2P(O)-O-Ser-Esterase]. In an epidemiologic study of 700 ski fall injuries YOUNG /1/ established a classification of the different fall modes involved. In more than 60 % of all falls that lead to an injury he found a forward bending motion of the body which is frequently coupled with a twisting of the body around the lower extremity. This clearly shows the importance of the forward motion component of the skier’s body in ski fall traumatology. The type of injury and its location depend on the action of the ski binding system. The paper is based on a study of 375 Finnish youngsters' views on questions concerning war and peace. These attitudes are examined in relation to the self-concept and moral development. The results show that girls apparently value peace more than boys do, that girls also participate in peace saving activities more than boys. Possible control mechanism of cell motility in the gorgonian Eunicella cavolinii

In a previous study it was demonstrated that a lectin controls cell-cell interaction in the gorgonian Eunicella cavolinii (Koch) as a negative modulator. Now we describe the procedure to purify this lectin to homogeneity; its molecular weight is 23 400. The homologous proteoglycans were identified as positive modulators of cell-cell (and/or cell substrate) interaction. The purified single proteoglycan aggregates were 1200±700 nm long and the distance between the attachment points of the proteoglycan subunits was about 45 nm. The glycosaminoglycan residues of the gorgonian proteoglycans were identified as hyaluronic acid (35.5%), heparan sulfate (47.9%) and dermatan sulfate (14.1%). Binding …

Photochemical reactors are examined from the point of view of the main problems connected to their modelling. By distinguishing the diverse meanings of kinetic models and the varied objectives in establishing models, a particular attention is devoted to the following aspects of homogeneous photoreactors: steady state condition, effect of stirring and mixing, effect of the shape of the reactor and of the position of the light source, light emission models, scale up. For the heterogeneous systems only general considerations on kinetic models in heterogeneous photocatalysis and on the problems related to the use of fluidized bed photoreactors are done.
